Take it from a 38 year old Michigander who has been all over the entire state. Yes it is really pretty up in these areas, which is northern and northwest Michigan. However, there isn't any job opportunities in these areas. There really isn't job opportunites anywhere in Michigan. I wouldn't suggest that anyone should relocate here. We have the highest unemployment rate in the country, people are losing their homes like crazy, very VERY high taxes, and the crime is unimaginable especially in the Detroit Metro area. If you come to Michigan, please come to enjoy our spectacular northern part, rent a cabin, go fishing, but then when you go home realize that wherever you came from, you have it pretty good.

And take it from a 44 year old Michigander who has been all over the country, There isn't anyplace else like Michigan. That is a POSITIVE thing.

No job opportunities? Couple of calls, couple of job offers. All of them a LOT higher wages that where we are now. Doesn't seem like no jobs to be had to me.

Unemployment rate? Yep, a whole whopping 1 1/2% higher than the average rate in the country right now. That isn't a lot bigger when it comes right down to it.

High taxes???? You don't get out much do you. Check other states first before you make such statements, Michigan is about in the middle of the pack when it comes to taxes.

Crime is unimaginable. You are so right, it is so unimaginable in most places that when something does happen it is shocking to the residents. Detroit has always been one of the top when it comes to crime rates, so that is no big revelation. But to judges the entire state on one region is simply ludicrous.
