I wasn't here when this thread first popped up almost 4 years ago. The general lack of knowledge gave me a great belly laugh!!

Anyone who wants to know, just google it. Most all of Michigan's militias are in the souther 1/4 of the state. Why that is....... I haven't a clue (other then the obvious higher population density).

While shooting sporting clays at different sportsmans clubs around the state we had a number of shoots at the sportsman club in Fenton Michigan. I believe I remember the name to be the Fenton lakes club, any way there were several Michigan militia members who were members of the club. some of the friendlest most help full people you would ever want to meet.

I fully under stand some of what they stand for and agree with much of what they say. On the other hand I do not agree with the far right winger section of the group. Killing cops and elected officals isn't going to stop the encrouchment of goverment on our lives.

You could tell the folks replying to this thread some 3yrs ago dont have a clue about the militia contingent here in our great state. Like you said, most of them are in the Metro Detroit area and just beyond. I know some of those folks. For the most part they are good law abiding citizens that take our constitutional rights very seriously and do exercise them.

Does anyone here know that Michigan is an "open carry" state? That's right. Most will carry concealed via permit but if you carry open, holster on the outside of your clothing (just like wild west days) it is perfectly legal if you obey the restricted areas.

As to topic....I havent heard much of the Wolverines up north here. I live fairly near where the northern unit of militia trained under the supervision of Norm Olsen. There may still be a unit training on occasion.

I can vouch (by my brother's experience during their appearances in the little hamlet of Brutus while marching in formation going house to house Christmas caroling) that they are a good bunch of people.

We have a strong militia in Mid-Michigan.

I knew MI was and had assumed all states were Open Carry, at least in the rural parts.
So I looked it up and was quite surprised by some of the states that are not open carry like TX, OK, and AR?

OpenCarry.org - A Right Unexercised is a Right Lost!

Or just google open carry states, map
(I can never remember when links are allowed and when they are not)

30yrs ago I freaked out when I saw bikers with a colt 6-shooter on their hip. I figured it was some sort of old west carry over. Then a few years back I heard of the open carry laws.

I'm not really ready to open carry just yet

You can carry concealed in AZ without a permit.
