I would never have guessed that about blue moon ice cream-now i know i will definitely have to have some from the Big Dipper in Cheboygan they carry Mooney's Ice cream!

Mofrom...CoastieMom...and everyone else....
Thank you so much for such an awesome thread.
We haven't moved yet (3 more months) and we're not moving north but we absolutely love Michigan and talk it up every chance we get.
I cannot wait for fresh blueberries and cherries. Oh...and pies!
Last year, on our TC trip, I was pretty much doubled over with cramps from all of the roadside cherry stands we stopped at - lol.
Now we'll have to make Hobo Stew in our firepit.
Thanks for the fun ideas and, more than anything else, the positive attitudes and excitement about a beautiful part of the U.S.

Anybody going to Sault Ste. Marie needs to stop at the Valley Camp. It is moored near the Coast Guard station. It is a retired lake freighter that has been converted to a maritime museum. It's director is the retired CG captain who led the search for the Edmund Fitzgerald. It is very cool.

BTW, speaking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, this coming weekend is the 50th anniversary of the launching of said ship. I think there will be some activities in River Rouge or Ecorse, but the bulk will be held at Lake Erie Metropark south of Gibralter. It is a beautiful park, worthy of a visit. If you can't make it, there will be a live videostream.

S. S Edmund Fitzgerald

Isn't it amazing how Michigan can't compare to any other place in the world? I tried so hard and was so excited to leave when I was younger, and I'm glad I did; I had amazing experiences! After a couple of years in other places I was ready to come home, and now that I'm moving back there's nowhere I'd rather be going. I was missing northern Michigan so much I took a long weekend - which has now been extended because I couldn't bring myself to leave today! - and came much earlier than I expected to. Have fun!
