Default Greetings from the frying pan of the West!

Don't forget to take him Petoskey stone hunting

You are all making me homesick by the way. I was planning a trip back this summer with my daughter until I blew out my knee, now I need all my vacation time for recovery time after surgery

Oh and NO ONE celebrates Hockey like Michigan does..except for maybe Canada. Being in Arizona during the Stanley Cup is SO irritating!!!! People are like Stanley what? I swear the only one who gets it is Wayne Gretskey and if you want to see how the mighty have fallen check out his record with the "yotes"...ok, I'm done

Ok, i'll begin my trip stories and photos....sorry if you are not interested, but I had a WONDERFUL time sharing Northern Michigan with my big city east coast boyfriend!
When we arrived late on Wed. my mom had a rhubarb pie and oberon waiting for us-it was great!
thurs and fri were spent on wedding stuff-my friend's weddingwas fantastic and fun...

We woke up on saturday and went to the docks at big boy to watch the wanigan race-a wanigan is a raft that must be built then also be able to cook a pot of chili while the team members row to the finish line-all in homage to the logging days

here are some photos from the wanigan races

first, second and third places

I thought it was awesome that an all female team was second place!

also during the wanigan races was a group of ojibwa indians that were in the middle of a trip up the entire inland waterway-mostly youth who were on a journey learning more about their traditions:

Soooo onto sunday after spending the morning with my mom (good breakfast and church)....we went up to mackinaw for the craft show where i was able to buy a nice gift for a friend then we had YUMMY smoked whitefish from Bell's fishery!!! soooo good....

That night my boyfriend and i and the newlyweds decided we would drive over to Cross Village. It had rained most of the day, but we wanted to go to Legs Inn and see the Jelly Rolls Blues Band and hopefully catch a sunset...wow, we were soooo lucky!! we went down to the beach (lake michigan) first then up to legs inn for the view and dancing!
here are only a few of my million pictures from that little trip!

and yes there were two surfers there!!!

sunset from the yard of Legs Inn

then here is my favorite one!!!!

so yeah i recommend a sunset at cross village and of course visiting the dunes and legs inn (we did the dunes there last summer)

enjoy...more to come

Sounds like you had a splendid time! I am so happy the weather cooperated and all. Now that you have him hooked, be sure to hurry back soon. You know what they say about striking while the iron is hot! LOL
