next time-we'll go farther west in da UP
oh and we have friends in cedarville and they did want to take us on a cruise of les cheneaux islands-but again we ran out of time

On Tuesday My boyfriend and I took the boat out alone onto Mullett Lake once again it was a super windy day (coastie mom would have been worried about me if you knew).....

as we started to cross the lake to go to aloha state park-bad idea!!!
should have just gone down the river.....

you really can't tell but there were HUGE swells!!! in my fourteen years of driving our family pontoon on mullett lake i have never driven it in such huge waves!!! i will never do that again-it was a white knuckle ride-although my boyfriend trusted me and sat back and relaxed!

Well here i am again....since cheboygan is so "horrible" according to another thread, I thought i'd share what we did on wed.
Our Cheboygan Day
We first visited my grandmother (her 87th birthday is this friday!) then we went to the Gildner Gallery in downtown Cheboygan-it features local artists and of course the artworks are for sale-Cheboygan is really working on celebrating the arts and making it much more tangible.

I have a few more photos from the gallery, but i'll keep it a mystery so you can go visit

After that, we went to the Cheboygan County Historical Society Museum where i was a docent for four summers growing up.

these are all from part of the new exhibits-i didn't take photos in the old part-although it is the best part! i was having too much fun playing guide again
here is an old coast guard rescue boat!

and here is my grandfather just before he went off to WWII

so after the museum, we went to the historic cheboygan opera house! this is where i took dance class growing up and have seen many many awesome performances-jeff daniels was one of the more recent big names there.

the view from stage

and the view of the stage from the balcony!

our afternoon ended when we went to see wally at the art deco movie theatre-the Kingston Theatre! (it was a rainy afternoon)

our evening continues next....

one more post for today

my parents took us out for dinner that evening...we went to Chateau North Chateau North- Home which in all the years i lived in cheboygan i had never been there for dinner only brunch! It is located near the Black Mountain recreation area which used to have a downhill ski lift but now is a cross-country haven as well as snowmobile-also a locals favorite place to sled! Anyway, Wed. is their Rib night-and HOLY COW their ribs were AMAZING!! we all got them and LOVED them, i high recommend them!!!

here is a picture of the little lake it is on and the hill we sled down

after dinner, we went on an adventure takign the backroads back to town-we only took a couple wrong turns, but was cool to see some bogs and the michigan cranberry compay

and here is billy's creek-this is when we knew that we had found our way

and here is the osprey that calls a telephone poll home near duncan bay on lake huron (it is there every year!)

Thanks for checking out my thread

Thursday
We ended up going to Mackinac Island for the day specifically to rent bikes!
We started out going around the island heading west

pretty view from the road that circles the island

bicycle traffic outside town

Devil's Kitchen

then a little ways past (a couple miles) we got to British Landing and this is where I like to cut into the island up and i mean UP british landing road (i am soooo out of shape)

the beautiful british landing road-road apples and all!!!

here is one of three cemeteries I love to visit in themiddle of the island-obviously the Post Cemetery just found a link to a listing of all here! Fort Mackinac Post Cemetery - Mackinac County, Michigan

eventually you will arrive at Arch Rock

view from arch rock

then on the way back to town (i always go this way then past the grand hotel) you'll go behind the fort

also the back of the fort

we then enjoyed visiting with friends at the pink pony bar and grille then we had dinner in mackinaw city then saw friends at mulligans and johnies in cheboygan
only one more day left of my vacation!!!!

I'm back to post about my last full day in Cheboygan, which was Friday the Fourth of July!!! we woke up and made it to the Fourth of july parade on main st. in cheboygan-I always love a parade-good friend of mine has two little boys so of course it is fun to have little kids around...here are a couple photos from the parade...

Later in the afternoon we went out to our friends' house on Long Lake in Cheboygan (i used to work at the summer camp on this lake)....

on the Fourth they have a boat parade then they have paddle boat races, here are a couple photos from the race-division one and two

I love this lake-the camp is on the other side...

My boyfriend and I are on that jetski on the other side of the lake

so anyway we went to a cookout and party later on to watch the city fireworks-which were great!!!!
I was very sad to leave on saturday morning-and I cannot wait to bring my boyfriend back again....not sure if i mentioned it before but my favorite quote from my boyfriend was "not sure if you are trying to convince me to move here, but it is working!" i'll bring him back in the winter sometime too so we can go sledding and skiing

i was in the detroit area for another wedding this past weekend and i had a great time there too! the wedding was at camp dearborn!

hope you all enjoyed my photos!

No, those look like nice 3 - 4 foot swells. Torch Lake gets like that, and if you're going into the wind, it's just horrible (and kind of scary). Beautiful pics!
