Default Things I am looking forward to when I visit N. Michigan in less than a month!!

Here is a little backstory- I LOVE michigan!!! I moved right out of college because I am a teacher and really wanted to get some experience right away-i have a hard time doing much but teaching-so i moved east-I dream of moving back to michigan someday-just not yet when many teachers are being laid off and there are HUGE budget deficits in michigan schools....soooo anyway, I am bringing my city boyfriend to cheboygan for the second time-last summer he could only come for a long weekend, but this summer i'm in a wedding and we decided to stay for a long week!!! so in no particular order things i am looking forward to seeing and doing and just plain looking forward to!

* Swimming in and Boating on Mullett Lake Mullett Lake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

* being in my best friend's wedding

* Swimming and Jet Skiing on Long Lake (in cheboygan) Long Lake, Cheboygan County, Cheboygan Michigan Fishing

* Drinking Bell's Oberon

* Hearing an Upper Midwest Accent and people calling pop pop!

* Going to watch the Wanigan Race Wanigan

* Maybe hitting up the beer tent after the race to hear live music

* Possibly going to the St. Ignace Car Show St. Ignace Car Show - Saint Ignace Events - Pure Michigan Travel

* Star-gazing watching for meteors

* Sitting around a bonfire playing guitars and telling stories

* Maybe going to the Arts and Crafts Show in Mackinaw Mackinaw City Arts & Craft Show - Mackinaw City

* Going to Mackinac Island to bike through the middle of the Island http://www.mackinacisland.org/pdfs/m...locatormap.pdf
start downtown, ride our bikes to British Landing then cut Straight through the middle of the island to Arch Rock

* Visit Tahquamenon Falls and if it is warm enough swim in the lower falls Tahquamenon Falls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

* Visit Ocqueoc Falls and Swim in them if it is hot enough! Ocqueoc Falls near Onaway pictures from scenery & nature photos on webshots

* Have fresh rhubarb from the yard

* eat fresh Whitefish!!!!!

* If we have extra time we'll go to sleeping Bear Dunes http://www.nps.gov/slbe/

* And if we have even more time we'll go to pictured rocks or just Grand Marais Log Slide Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - Scenic Sites at Pictured Rocks (U.S. National Park Service)

* Whitefish point to maybe catch a sunset Whitefish Point Lighthouse Michigan Upper Peninsula

* if time go to the charlevoix art show 10th Annual Summer Solstice Art Show - Charlevoix Events - Pure Michigan Travel

* Watch the cute little fourth of july parade in cheboygan 4th of July Parade - Cheboygan Events - Pure Michigan Travel

* Go to Fourth Cookout and party to watch the City Fireworks!

* Have some Summer Sausage!!! I know it is a Wisconsin thing-but they really don't have it out east-they have their other good sausages-but i love summer sausage!!!

Okay I'm sure I'll add to this list!...anybody else visiting from out of state to their hometown this summer in michigan???

Michigan Moves South-i LOVE all Bell's beer....A couple bars around here carry it-but youcan't buy it in the stores-my boyfriend last year drove two hours west to buy two cases for me.......also at the end of the summer last year in cheboygan i bought the last six pack of oberon in cheboygan just to bring back with me!!!

Michigansnowflake-I love going to festivals and art shows-so i really hope i have time to go-i wish it were venetian time..oh well maybe next summer

If for nothing else move back to MI for Bell's! It is something we all look forward to that says "Welcome to Summer"

FYI- This is the brother of the Bell's Beer owner, opening a winery soon. He's a great guy, I hope he does well! Michigan's Circa Estate Winery plans a summer opening in Leelanau

I feel the exact same way! I know that Michigan has more than its fair share of troubles lately. As far as I am concerned it is the BEST "worst state" to live in! Kudos to you for extolling it's virtues!

Just remember with all those water sports you have planned be sure to wear your Coast Guard approved life jacket! My son won't be there to rescue you this summer! LOL

i went through boaters' safety when i was twelve-i love the fact that i did that-always have lifejackets on board the boat-and when jetskiing always have the lifejacket on!

i can't say enough good things about michigan-when i taught in maryland (i moved up to philly now) i read my students books abotu michigan, i taught them to say pop and yeah.....

i love visiting bells' brewery/eccentric cafe for the cheap awesome beer and the good music!! Bell's Brewery, Inc.

I love Historic Mill Creek, think I actually prefer it to- dare I say it- Fort Michilimackinaw! LOL

Will you be stopping in Dearborn for the obligatory visit to Greenfield Village? If you haven't been there in a while, you might be surprised at the changes.

I never understood why some of my friends did not take boaters' safety especially with the strict laws about jet skiis......

I would love to be able to stop at greenfield village-the last time i was there was...wow....14yrs ago!!!!! crazy! i don't know if we'll have time-he has never been the the detroit area at all! (my boyfriend) i would love to take him to the west side also show him why i love kzoo so much, but the state is so big and i have so little time...on this trip anyway
