Please somebody, rescue me from the south!
When I lived in MI I was never stuck indoors during the winter. I was out, playing in the cold and snow and loving every minute of it.
Living in Houston, I am stuck indoors during the VERY long summer, because the heat plus humidy is unbearable.
I can't wait to move back up north to play in the snow!!!

I feel your pain, Steph. I moved to Houston (Spring) from MI when I was 11 and then to Georgia when I was 18. We used to go home every Christmas and I would spend the whole year anticipating that trip.......don't know what you got 'till it's gone, right?
Anyway, I always dreamed of the day I would live in Michigan again, and after a lot of hard work and tough decisions I finally made it happen last year. It's been everything I knew it would be - all over again.
Keep the faith - you can come home one day, too!

Thank you for your words of encouragement!
Congratulations on your move, I am very happy for you; and a little jealous. (Okay, okay, very jealous!)

What about Saugatuck!!!!
Sin7..if you're into art..definitely check out Saugatuck.
It's West Michigan's version of "San Francisco"--artistic, a little more liberal, lots of activity. It's a very small town, but has lots of great shops, restaurants, etc...plus, it's not far from Holland, Grand Haven, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
Also, the area is almost unparralled in West Michigan for beauty...it's right on the lake.
A little more lake effect snow, however.
I travel all over the country, and for my money, West Michigan is a great place to live and work...especially around Grand Rapids and west to the lakeshore.
Good luck.

We are on the northernmost part of Green Bay - which is part of Lake Michigan. Yes, THE Green Bay as in the Packers. We are an hour north by 4 lane hiway of the city of Green Bay. Lake Michigan is a beautiful lake as is Lake Superior which is the northern border of the UP. We have everything needed here to live happy and fullfilling lives. We have festivals, a marina, wonderful library, good schools a great downtown area with a park on the lake and a bandshell, which has concerts all summer long. And in our restaurants we have great food pizza, burgers, the famous fish fries, etc. Our southern border is the Menominee river, which runs down from near Iron Mountain in the UP. Across the interstate bridge is Marinette, Wisconsin which has the bigger mall, movie theatres, and more. We are often called naive and sometimes a backwards area, however, if that means we are down to earth and not snobs, I guess we are. It is a friendly and proud area and after living in Wisconsin for my first 68 years, I am happy to call it home. Check us out!

I can relate to that! I've about had it with summer. We have a pool and it makes a big difference. Otherwise, we would be stuck inside in the air conditioning.
I'm hoping we can make it back home to Michigan this winter and do some skiing and snowmobiling.
>> I was never stuck indoors during the winter...
Me either. I guess I'm a northern guy. I just don't like it here in Florida.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are looking to find a job DO NOT move to kzoo. I just moved out of there and now I am moving out of MI for good. I am actually moving to FL keys. Ironic, I know. I was frantically job serching for 6 months straight and could not even come up with a full time job. I am a student so I would looking for retail, bars, hardware stores, book store, home health care aid, baby sitting, pet sitting, book stores, resturants, everything, you name it, I have applied for it. I lived on east side of the state most of my life (1 hour north of Detroit in a suburbian area) and the economy IS better here than Kzoo. I have already found a job and I've only been back a month.
