Default Crime...

Many other factors are also taken into account such as the severity of each crime (eg, rape, murder, armed robbery, etc) and the frequency in which they happen. If you want more information and comparisons, I would suggest Census Bureau Home Page Cheers!

Lansing isn't "thought" of that way. It is that way.

I think that last years serial killer spree had a lot to do with it. Like any city, if you avoid the bad areas, you are pretty safe.

Some areas of Lansing are worse than others. I was originally from the Detroit area, so when we moved up here, I laughed at the idea that Lansing was unsafe. However, the neighborhood in which I live has definately gone done hill with the economy and I no longer feel very safe there. I live north of Mt Hope between Pennsylvania and S Cedar.

But, if I cross Mt Hope or Pennsylvania, I always feel very safe. So, I think that it depends on the area within the city (though this is true of most places).

Lansing? Dangerous? You gotta be kidding, right? Have you been to Highland Park or Flint? Those cities make Lansing look like camp snoopy! And I'm not even mentioning Detroit for the fact that it blows all the competion away in terms of being dangerous. Count yourself lucky you are living in Lansing and not in the above cities.

Probably got something to do with all the crackheads knocking on your door at midnight asking for a ride to some section 8 apartment complex on the southwest side of town.

Hey, at least in Lansing, as opposed to San Francisco or Denver, you can get a concealed weapons permit and pack heat. It makes me feel safer.

For as many ccw's as there are out there, I've never heard of anyone locally, actually needing the weapon they are carrying. Seems that most violent crime is committed by punk-assed kids shooting eachother for looking at a girl or showing disrespect. What's really scary though is when you go into a pawn shop right next to Arbor Point, and there are a bunch of hood rats in there looking at the huge array of pistols and telling their friends which one they are going to buy next week. Do they keep them at home? Doubt it. Do they go through the ccw classes and get the permit? Highly doubt it.
