Default Honest and Responsible Moving Company?

I am going to be moving from Royal Oak to Las Vegas in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone has had a positive experience with a moving company they would recommend. I am looking for a company that will load all belongings into the truck, drive to the new location, and unload truck into new home. I will be boxing everything up myself to ensure proper care has been taken of my fragile items and such.

If you box everything up, the movers will not guarantee that it will not break. Best bet, let the movers pack and be home to keep an eye on things.

Yep, this exactly. Unless you want to pack AND rent a truck and move yourself, let the movers do their job. They will not back up anything not packed by their people, at least to the best of my knowledge.

We've been moved before by Rose Moving and Storage and I was happy with them. I hovered like a hen, lol. They were nice, careful, efficient, and nothing was broken when we got to our destination.

Good Luck!

Allied is a very large moving company that i have used in the past. They are quite expensive, but their professionalism & high quality of service make it hard to beat.

The least expensive method is just to rent a 26' U-Haul and tow your car behind.

If you really want to do the packing yourself -- go with Pods or ABF Upack and get some friends or general labor to move the boxes to the container if you don't want to do that bit. It's probably cheaper than a full service move and can be more convenient if you want to take your time packing/unpacking. Check out the General Moving forum on this same site for additional opinions.

I'd use Two Men and A Truck...they guarantee what they move, but I think they request to pack it. Did you know.... that company was started by a woman in Michigan. Her company mission statement is pretty cool. She actually started by her husband (I think) and a friend with literally, just 2 men and a truck and now has a nation-wide moving company.
Anyways...good luck with your move. I just moved in March from MI to Utah (but I went the cheap route - packed it myself and used a Budget truck).

I just used Allied for a move from one state to another. Two Men and a Truck only does local moves (or within a certain radius) I actually had them move the furniture from home to storage and then had Allied pick it up when I was ready to have it moved.

Two Men and a Truck was started by a woman in Okemos, she's well known in the central Michigan area for her vision, customer service and work ethic. Great company and franchising out into other states. I've used them twice and have had nothing but great experience with their services, communication, packing materials etc.

Packing your own fragiles is not a good idea. Let movers pack, stand over and watch them (I actually use a legal pad and write down everything that goes in every box). If you pack it, when they put the sticker on it it's labeled and highlighted PBO~they'll move it but it's not insured except to arrive, contents are not guaranteed. Let them pack. You can surely pack soft goods to save on time/labor hours, I always pack my clothes, towels, linens, books, holiday decorations, shoes & purses etc. Let them pack the mirrors, pictures, good dishes and such. Allied and Atlas seem to be the most frequently praised moving services in Michigan.

I have noticed that alot of people are recomending Two Men And A Truck:

I have used their service in MI. I must be honest I was very disapointed. When the movers arrived to my home I was imediatley worried when the driver could not even back into my drive way. His crew go out of the truck and littered my front yard with pop bottles and garbage and did not even take the effort to pick up their trash.

The driver interduced himself and his help. I showed the crew what I needed moved and made the driver mad because I had more boxes then what my wife told the estimator. I was paying by the hour yet never got compisation for the numerous cigarette and phone breaks. I notied the driver was almost training his crew at my home. One of the helpers told me he was with a company called labor ready. He told me he had never moved proffesionaly.

To make a long story short my experiance with two men and a truck was a nightmare and I get the same feed back from others that have used this companies service!

We used a company called Bekins to move my daughter to North Carolina and couldnt have been happier.

All I can suggest is to investigate the company.

BBB and Testimonials of previous customers.

Good luck with your move!

Having the movers pack it is absolutely wonderful, but what no one has mentioned is that it is expensive. If you are on a budget, you should pack your things on your own.

My husband's company moved us, so we got the royal treatment from the movers. It was fantastic. However, had the company not paid for it, we would have packed ourselves. The move (from Dallas to MI) cost almost $30K. We used Graebel.
