TC or Torch Lake, I'm not a fan and have never run into him, I love TC area, and Torch Lake is ranked as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Don't let that stop you from visiting. Northern Michigan is absolutely beautiful.

TC is pricey to live though, compared to other cities in NM, and the jobs aren't very plentiful or well paying.

It's a great place to live and work, but winters are no better then anywhere else in north Michigan. Cold and crappy.

I lived in TC for 10 years before I moved to the UP. Compared to SE Mi., TC is great. High cost of living and low wages are the order of the day. If you can put up with that then go for it. As for the schools, there are a good deal of folks that moved from downstate to get their kids out of the bad schools there. In some cases, their kids brought bad habits with them. So keep that in mind. Mayberry it ain't. There is significant crime. Property taxes are higher than average for other rural areas. There are a lot of good places to eat and shopping if you are in to that. Overall, it is above average as a place to live in Mi. IF you have a good income. If not you will struggle.

Crime is significant?

As I told someone when they suggested that TC has as much crime as the burbs downstate............... Lets say you leave your camera in your car and it gets stolen. In the SE burbs, you wouldn't even bother to report it. In TC it almost makes the papers! <G>

I do agree with you about wages though. Employers know that people will work for peanuts just to live in the area, so that's pretty much what you get paid.

My question for you who want jobs in the TC area is............ Salted or unsalted?

I lived in TC for over a year and worked at the resort for 8.00/hr. Lucky that I'm single. But TC is a nice town especially during the Summer months, even though it did not feel like Summer. But it is definetly a tourist town.

I love living in TC. I do have one thing to say to the guy who posts as Peter B. in relation to Big Box stores being built on the East side...why don't you build them in your neighborhood clear you don't live on the East Side. We have neighborhoods here just like you and taxpayers. So please do not designate your area for Big box stores.

Having lived all over the country in some rather amazing places, TC is by far the most beautiful to me. There is a Small Town Class Code thing that I find highly amusing. Code words are used frequently in sizing up one's pedigree and its a hoot. This isn't Aspen Folks! But if that is really the only quirk about some people, than I can handle it!

Having lived in areas that have six hour traffic jams and high crime rates. TC is a breathe of fresh air. I am a native Michigander and only considered moving back if I could live here...

There are no real jobs for edcuated people, unless your a lawyer, doctor or teacher. However, that said its an amazing community of people that really participate. One can find there way in this town easily.

Here is to TC without Big Box Consumerism but well thoughout urban planning with great transportation venues...oh wait that is Plan C that was developed by the TC Vision Group...see we are on our way..

What the heck are u talking about? Acme NEEDS a Meijer store, done correctly. If you don't think so, you are clearly out of touch.
