I'm not sure if there is an existing thread on this but I'll ask anyways. How would you guys feel if Wisconsin Annexed the U.P? I'm not sure how I would feel gaining more land on my side. This would open up a whole new market for Wisconsin.

So how would you feel?

I would feel crushed! I love the U.P. It's an absolute jewel, and I'd be willing to bet most Michiganders would agree with me in saying it should never be annexed to another state. I am lucky enough to go up there twice a year (once in the fall for the amazing colors and to hunt for waterfalls and once in the summer, as I have a cabin not far from the bridge on the Mackinaw side), and while it's definitely different than it's southern counterpart it's an integral part of the state, its culture and its values.

Well.... considering Lansing doesn't seem to have our best interests at heart and Wisconsin has a better record of protecting their natural wonders...... and give better alternative energy credits then we get here.... I say annex away!!

Most people I know up here are rabid Packer fans anyway.

Ha I think if that were to happen we should do what got us the UP in the first place, start a war. (UP was given to us as a result of the Toledo War, we got it instead of the Toledo area) Except this time with Wisconsin.

Just curious..... if Michigan wins, what do they get from Wisconsin?? Door County? The land along Lake Superior to MN including the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore??

That is to funny, I figured there would be some bears and vikings fans mixed in. lol I've never seen the term rabid used in the same sentence as Packers before.

Well it would be over the UP.

The UP is a jewel.
There is no way on earth Michigan would part with it.

The old notion that the UP wasn't part of Michigan made more sense back when there was no bridge.

My take is this: Michigan's university system is better funded. Wisconsin does a better job of protecting natural resources. If you give the UP to Wisconsin, you'd preserve the natural wonders, but MTU, NMU and Lake State would probably all suffer.
