Just my 2 cents but I would set up shop out in Lawton, Mattawan, Paw Paw area. The heck with the Kalamazoo promise, I've got 2 kids and from what I've heard about Kalamazoo schools they are not stepping foot near any of em. I would also consider Plainwell or Otsego, that way if the job goes away it's not a bad commute to Grand Rapids and good ole GR is full of opportunity, good companies that Know how to compensate and treat folks right. Companies in K-zoo want you to beg and stand on your head and stack plates for a job, like a poodle, not this kid, take your second interviews, your temp services, and your goose crap filled park and stick it K-zoo. I like it out here amongst the grapes, most are friendly, a few are rude, but everyone pretty much minds thier own business.

I've been here for 4 years and I've definitely notice a huge difference between the people from Kalamazoo and metro Detroit. I live in an apartment complex with students from all different areas and they've all told me the same thing. Just curious what year are the WMU graduates that you've met? No offense but a majority of the recent graduates are move to Chicago or go back home, the ones who stay are the people from the here.
George we are probably living in two different worlds. It appears I am a lot older than you and a homeowner, so I have no reason to go near the apartment complexes. You are right, the WMU grads I've met that have stayed in the area are over several decades during my work life and I don't really have a handle on what the current ones are doing. I'm a pretty happy person and I live my life that way, so I guess I don't really notice or dwell on the rudeness of other people. You sound like a nice person and I hope you find a happy place to settle down in the future. Good Luck!

Default Hope you love KZOO

I lived in Kalamazoo for just over four years and I go back frequently to visit. I have lived in several cities across the US and I have to say that Kalamazoo is a great place. With both Kalamazoo College and WMU there are tons of art shows, live theatre, concerts, independent movies, sporting events. The downtown (and the entire town itself) has a great selection of restaurants and bars as well as a great organic food store. Kzoo also has tons of outdoor festivals throughout the year which is another great way to enjoy downtown and most of them are great for kids too. There is the art museum, the air zoo,the library system is fantastic and there is the KWings stadium. There is a nice selection of neighborhoods to choose from and the outlying areas have many lakes as well. Lake Michigan is only 40 minutes away with lots of camping, skiing, snowshoeing in the area too. Kalamazoo has a lot to offer but like most places, you have to keep your eyes open and actually get out and partake in all the city has to offer.
