Hey - I know!
Let's get Congress to move the World Bank to Flint. Then bring Blackwater in for providing armed demolition/construction workers working under Jimmy Carter's Habitat for Humanity. Blackwater could recruit local talent and then expand into Detroit.
All the debris could be air-ported to Mt St. Helens and dropped into the volcano.
Then, everyone else could be janitors keeping the World Bank "clean".
I'm going to send a letter to George Bush right now!

There are still nice neighborhoods left in Flint. I've lived here for 30 years and the only problem I've experienced is the rare case of vadalism. You just have to know which areas to avoid, don't associate with people of questionable character, and listen to your insticts. If you're uncomfortable there is a reason for it. I live in a neighborhood that has many middle class, young families, and retirees. East of Averill, south of Richfield Rd, west of Center Rd and north of Davison Rd. I wouldn't send my kids to Potter School, but there are a couple nice charter schools within a couple miles. I just graduated from the University of Michigan - Flint and it's a very short communte. I spent more time looking for a parking space than driving.
I don't love Flint, but I wish people wouldn't bash it so much. Of course no one is going to move here if all they hear is the bad stuff. I think Flint is due for a renaissance. The new U of M dorms are opening next month and I think the downtown area is going to attract a lot of new businesses to accomodate the needs of the students coming in from out of town. Kettering is one of the best engineering schools in the country. The farmer's market is a great place to get produce that is cheaper and better quality than any of the grocery store produce depts. The Whiting is bringing in broadway style shows. Housing is inexpensive compared to the surrounding area. Yeah we have a crime problem, but that is only going to get worse if all the upstanding citizens abandon the city and leave it to the criminals.
P.S. Go to www.whatsupdowntown.com and www.thelandbank.org to see all the updates planned for the downtown Flint area.

There's still decent neighborhoods but you'll pay sky high insurance rates anywhere in city limits

Most of us who have grown up in flint have experienced some kind of crime. My car was stolen while I was bowling one evening. Surprisingly I bowled at that place again and some guy pulled a gun out and started yelling at another guy. Also, a few guys tried to jump me after a Hamady basketball game. I like living somewhere that I can take a walk at night

I think that's part of the problem. I wouldn't be caught anywhere near Hamady at night.
