Kearsley is the only area of Burton I'd live in. Flint and Flint township have a few nice areas, but as a whole, I'd avoid both. Definitely would not live in Beecher if it were my only option. I would generally avoid Carmen-Ainsworth, too, as it is very hit-or-miss.
Grand Blanc is nice. A bit prejudiced (no offense to anyone).
In Mt Morris I would stick to rural areas only. The schools are going downhill though.
Based on schools (and safe/nice areas usually coincide with the schools that service them), these would be my picks:
1. Davison
2. Flushing
3. Grand Blanc
4. Goodrich
5. Lake Fenton
6. Fenton
7. Linden
8. Clio
9. Kearsley
10. Genesee
11. Swartz Creek
12. Carmen-Ainsworth
13. Bentley
14. Mt. Morris
15. Atherton
16. Montrose
17. Bendle
18. Westwood Heights (Hamady)
19. Flint City
20. Beecher

I had a friend that lived in the townhouses on the corner of Beecher and Mill St. They were nice, but that was about fifteen years ago.

There are still nice neighborhoods left in Flint. I live in a neighborhood that has many middle class, young families, and retirees. East of Averill, south of Richfield Rd, west of Center Rd and north of Davison Rd. I wouldn't send my kids to Potter School, but there are a couple nice charter schools within a couple miles. I just graduated from the University of Michigan - Flint and it's a very short communte. I spent more time looking for a parking space than driving.

Sounds like you live in the general area where my wife grew up. Her former address was 3805 Woodrow. Last summer we were in Flint. I drove by there and the house and neighborhood looked to be in nice shape. Her late younger sister went to Potter School.

My neighborhood on W. 2nd Avenue, though, looks like Beirut. It was nice when I was growing up. My mother didn't drive, and we'd walk downtown to the public library and the nice department stores. Of course, that was about 50 years ago.

Also, from some of the other posts, it seems like there is some racial tension there. Is that the case? is Flint pretty segregated? It seems like the North side of the city is very Black and the rest of the city is pretty mixed.
We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott on Hill Road last summer and found that to be a nice area; good restaurants and some nice new homes. That area and Grand Blanc to the south are nice. My father-in-law still lives in Flint Township, east of I-75 and south of Pasadena, and it's still a fine area.

Traditionally, Flint was very segregated. I'm talking 50 years ago, when that sort of thing was accepted by society. There was maybe one or two Black students in my entire junior high school, and none in elementary.

People always blow things way out of proportion! Yes, Flint may have seedy areas just like any other areas in cities that should be avoided. Just stay in the wealthier locales and there is no need to worry!

Some of em are probably still ok. The one's I'm referring to were government subsidized I believe. They weren't ever nice.

That would confine you to a pretty small area in flint

Yes, but these areas certainly supersede the rural bland feel of the outlying areas.

My point wasnt to say that the "rural bland" areas are better. I'm just saying that trying to stay in flint's nice areas isnt going to make flint a great place to live. The nice areas are few and far between and there is virtually no way to stay in them.
