Definitely HoliDAY Market. Nothing wrong with HollyWOOD, but Holiday Market is pretty much my favorite grocery store anywhere.

UP Pasties - sigh - never taste as good when I make 'em here
Coney Island hot dogs & Coney fries - the chili dogs I've had here are just sad
Greektown flaming cheese and that wonderful greek bread
Michigan cherries and apples
Cider mills for fresh cider & fresh doughnuts
White Castle burgers - yeah - I know I can get 'em frozen but they just don't taste the same

Boy I miss Michigan for the food....and the lakes and the festivals!
I feel ya on the white castles, and coney islands!!
Miss faygo, and Verners pop as well or should I say (SODA) lol

It took me a long time to train myself to say "soda" instead of "pop". Now when I go home to Michigan, I sound like a foreigner

Default great food in michigan

I love Holiday Market too. I just took a food tour and got a behind the scenes view of how the market works and a food sampling in thier culinary school as part of a food tour of Royal Oak through culinary-escapes.com . It was cool. I had a chance to meet and learn about the family that runs the market and sample some baked goods from thier award winning bakery. I love that place.

No -- don't change over to soda, you have to help teach the world that it's pop.

Here where I live they sometimes call it soda which sounds like they want club soda, but some have an even weirder term for "soft drinks" and that's to call them all coke. They'll say "I'm going for a coke, does anyone want one?", you say "yes" and they'll say "what kind?".

haha...i taught all my students in maryland to call it pop...all in good fun though they saw how excited i would get when they said pop (i gave high fives) so some caught on and most were calling it pop (in my classroom at least) by the end of the year! i still call it pop here too....

i'll be in royal oak on sat. any ideas for lunch (my friend and i are going to go out for lunch)

funny thing....one of my friends here works for Herr's chips the local brand of chips and he was really interested to find out what the michigan chip was-so i was telling him a bit about bettermade

LOL! That is exactly how it is where I am from in north Texas. All soft drinks are coke, then you have to specify what kind you want.
The first time I heard a request for a pop when I lived in Michigan, I didn't know what they were talking about.

Just wanted to point out (brag) that I was working an event in Livonia today and just HAD to pick up some Bates Burgers since it was like not even a mile down the road.

Haha.

Just had to add that when I was living out of state my dear mother actually FedExed me a case of Vernors.

I don't even want to know the shipping on that but I will be forever grateful! lol
