Get Your Walk Score - A Walkability Score For Any Address

Interesting site.

I got a 63, "somewhat walkable".

Mine is screwy:
Quote:
Walk Score: 42 out of 100 — Car-Dependent
It has places listed under restaurants that are self storage units. No book stores close (2 within 1/4 of a mile), no grocery stores closer than 5 miles (1 is less than 1/2 mile) Coffee shops it has the closest 5 1/2 miles away (1 is 1/4 mile away) and it has the schools 1/4+ away when I can hit it with a rock from my backyard. Closest park being almost 9 miles away, so I better not tell my kids who walk to one of 3 parks every day that is within 4 blocks of the house.

They are missing places that belong on their list and have others listed that have nothing to do with the category they are in. I question the site's accuracy for smaller towns and locations.

This index is grossley inaccurate. It told me I worked two blocks from two major grocery stores (Meijer and D&W). Turns out it was referring to their PO Boxes at the downtown GR main post office!

For my home, it said I was across the street from a school. Yep, a "voice coach" lives there!

Good idea, but the software needs a major tweak!

Well it DOES have their name on the address. Might want to print it out and go in looking for a bag of chips and a pound of hamburger. Of course if it is my Brother-in-Law working behind the counter, you may want to duck after asking .

I noticed that too when putting in other addresses. It said there was a library down the street from me when it's a librarian's house or something. Weird.

I think mine was pretty accurate, but I don't agree with the score (42 out of 100 - car dependent). I walk my kids up to McDonald's frequently. There is a school with a library and playground up the block from me. Granted I wouldn't send my kids there, but if they just wanted to play or go to the library it would work. The grocery store is about a mile away, but I've walked that before too and I ride my bike up to 7-11 for bread and milk all the time.

Has anyone from Kalamazoo tried this yet? Supposedly Kzoo scored 80 out of 100 - very walkable. I'm wondering how accurate this is? Hopefully, we're moving that way in a few weeks. I'd love not having to drive all over the place.

I put in our old address in Marquette, MI (we live outside the city now).

It gave me a 92 out of 100. The actual grocery store would be a bit of a walk but if you had a little cart it would be doable for most people (except maybe during the long winters).

Hehe...I got a 23 for my Sterling Hts address and a 80 for my Henderson, NV address. I agree totally with it.
