Sterling Heights is a wonderful community! We have lived here for almost 30 years, and truly enjoy the city. Sterling Heights is a very diverse community, have many activities (Sterling fest, weekly concerts, City sponsored enrichment classes, a great library) Check out the City of Sterling Heights website. We also have lots of shopping, 2 huge movie theaters, a concert ampitheater, a variety of restaurants). Do you know which high school you would like your child to attend? There are two separate school districts in Sterling Heights; southern half is Warren Consolidated schools (Sterling Heights HS and Mott HS) Northern half is Utica Community Schools (2nd largest district in the State), there are 3 school possibilities (Stevenson HS, Utica HS and Ford II HS). Of course where you live determines which school your son would attend. You can check out the district websites, Utica schools have links to the individual school websites as well. Good luck as you continue your research and plan to move!

Eisenhower is also a Utica Community HS. Located in Shelby Twp.

My daughter attended Warren Mott and she loved it. She did well there.

Muslima spoke of living in Sterling Heights. Eisenhower boundaries encompass Shelby Township, not Sterling Heights. My sisters kids go to Warren Mott, she is pleased with the school as well!

Yes, that is true, I was just stating that as a UCS high school. Utica HS is in Utica, so that one may be out too!

I do think that Warren is very diverse also, maybe a little more so than SH but probably not far behind. Of course Warren is a much larger city too.

thanks again for everyone's input and advice. we have found a beautiful condo around 19 mile near the mall. my son will be attending school on 15 mile and van dyke. i'm a little worried about traffic but we decided not to live in the area of the school because we only had a couple days to find a place and couldn't find any newer housing. everything we found seemed to be quite dated and old. we only signed a 9 month lease so hopefully we will be able to find a nicer place closer to the school next go around. anyway, so far so good, everyone we met in those two days were very nice.

i was a little disappointed to learn that sterling heights doesn't have a very strong bus system at least that was conveyed to me by a few different residents and also no recycling pick-up from your home. i was complaining about our town because they only pick up every other week but i guess it's better than nothing.

anyway having a diverse friendly town is the most important thing to me, so from the responses here and my first couple days in your town, i feel pretty good about things.
thanks again all.

At least you should be able to to school of choice since you are living out of district. Be sure to check with Warren Con Schools. The traffic may be a bear, since traffic near the mall is very heavy as well as North South traffic during rush hour.

While Sterling Heights does not have curbside recycling, we DO have several recycling centers open to drop off at your convenience.

Did you make it to Sterling Fest??

I forgot, the last of the Sterling Height students were redistricted from Utica to Stevenson about 3 years ago, with a transition period for siblings of current students. 2009 graduations will usher the remainder of the siblings out of Utica HS.

I went to the SterlingFest! It was very nice! Went Thurs. with my youngest and then back again on Saturday with "the girls". All my sisters and friends came and we had a sleepover at my house. We went to REO Sat. night! Fun!! Very crowded! Great weather! Love that Kettle Korn!!

I think it is kind of weird that they do it Thurs, Fri, Sat. I wish they let it run to Sunday. I would think they would make more money too.

The Schoenherr traffic is a big drag right now, but that is closer to 17 mile. Very frustrating. There are ways around it, but...summers in MI=orange barrels!!
