It depends where you find th houses in what areas to say if you will be able to do anything with them. Saginaw is no different than anywhere else in Michigan, people are just trying to hold on and many like us had to leave the state to make it.

Sad to hear it, but you have to do what you can to make it in todays economy.

In a word, I'd call Saginaw "scary"! Typical factory town in decline and has been considered "scary" since I was a child in the 60's. My brother was a cop in another community and was offered a huge salary and recruitment dollars to relocate to Saginaw. Combat pay, they called it! He wisely declined. I'd think twice before investing in Saginaw.

The poster clearly he/she is in school in A2. That's Ann Arbor. Probably living there while in school. Not too confusing!

As a former resident of Saginaw this is all very true, however the people of the tri-cities, Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City, are some of the nicest and down to earth that you will ever meet. I would not give up on the area if you are one of the fortunate to have a decent job and enjoy the extremely low cost of living that Saginaw offers!

Take emotion out of it- Saginaw will never be the same, as with several other places in Michigan. People and the gov. need to plan around a declining population- e.g. demolishing/ recycling homes and urban agriculture. People here need to stop living in denial about this. If I were to invest in housing for Michiganders in the future, it would be in the South or West. This is a wonderful state but, frankly, its overpopulated.

Possible move to saginaw
Hi, I'm new here and I was just wondering-
What is Saginaw Township like?
Is it growing? If not, is it declining fast?
How is Heritage High School? I might attend it.
I might move to the north part of the township, near the shopping area.
Is the area prone to crime?
How is the hotel business there?
What new developments are in the township?
Any info. is great. I recently read negative posts about Saginaw, but I'm not concerned about east of the river. I just want info. about west of Saginaw River.

I graduated from Heritage in 2000. Education and athletics are great. Was very cliquey in my day but I suppose that's how most high schools are. If you take Spanish with Sra. Cook tell her I said hi. One of my fav teachers ever.
Saginaw Twnshp is typical suburban middle-America. Crime? If you are from Youngstown, Ohio I would not have any concern about crime at all. Worst crime in Saginaw Township is bored kids vandalizing property but this happens EVERYWHERE.
As far as the hisotry of murders in the City of Saginaw, these are almost always drug or gang related. Don't do drugs, and don't involve yourself in a gang and you won't make yourself a target, easy as that. It's not as if thugs walk around all day looking for just the right random target to shoot. I suppose if you walked around yelling racial slurs you'd be in for some trouble. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you don't go around asking for trouble, you won't have it.

Jrmontag, thanks a lot for your reply. I had been worrying about the crime because I heard it was high. It's good to know the township is safe. But as far as growth grows, how is it in the township?
Are there any developments, like retail, residential, commercial? I'm curious to know as much about the area as I can.

For the love of Mike, if you want to buy a home as an investment dont look in Saginaw. No one there has any money to buy a home. The jobs are leaving. People leaving. And the only that stays is the grime and grit. Why not try Midland or even Bay City?
