What is Saginaw Like?
I am thinking of buying up some single family homes in Saginaw for investment purposes. Can anyone tell me if people like living there? Do you see it going down the drain like Detroit? What is the future like for Saginaw? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Saginaw has striking resemblance to Detroit and Flint. It's not a very pretty place. Overall quite rundown and not a lot of great opportunities right now. There is really very little push for any kind of renaissance there like there is in Flint. There are certainly some nicer parts but it is pretty run down.

I know some will disagree with what I am saying but any investment purchase in Michigan right now is very risky. The reason I say this is due to the fact that housing values continue to fall and people continue to leave the state. Michigan cities are facing a dilemma that others states are not. Investment is occurring in very few cities in the state, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and some in Lansing. The suburbs of Detroit have been in demand in the previous years, but have been unable to escape the situation at hand. Saginaw is most likely one of the last cities in this state to rebound, and while you'll get a lot for your money, don't expect to make a return in the next decade.

I would stay away from Saginaw like others have said the city is not in good shape and with the poor Michigan economy most likely will not rebound for many years. I have not heard of any new commitments by the City of Saginaw to try to rebuild or even start new "renaissance" like the City of Detroit and Flint have, at least in their downtowns. Saginaw has no idea where it is going and does not even have a plan. Investing in the entire State of Michigan is very hard at the moment. Many of my friends have "fliped" Suburban Detroit homes, but have not gotten the high profits that they have gotten in the past. Many of them they have I the market for a long time, trying to sell them for at least a few thousand dollars in profit.

Of course it won't rebound....everyone keeps discouraging everyone else from moving and investing there.

Unfortunately, one person is not going to change the entire city. Saginaw has been in decline for many years, and unless the government leaders decide to encourage some sort of corprate growth, nothing up there is going to move forward. You can't live in Saginaw and nobody is moving there because there is no jobs at all.

That is a little confusing. Your profile says Ann Arbor.

We just left Michigan due to lack of jobs.I grew up in Saginaw, well Carrollton. Husband gew up in Township. About 15 years ago we moved to an area in the country from Saginaw. Found even then the crime rate going up. With people loosing their homes they need a place to live. Jobs just aren't there and although their are promises tp bring this and that to the area it doesn't do much now. It depends where you find th houses in what areas to say if you will be able to do anything with them. Saginaw is no different than anywhere else in Michigan, people are just trying to hold on and many like us had to leave the state to make it.
