ok i spent a couple weeks in kalamazoo. i checked out the surrounding areas and downtown and i was shocked how clean the city was (with the exception of a few areas but that's expected). just walking down michigan ave, i was amazed to see how many different pubs, bars, and classy restaurants there were. also had the opportunity to check out the taste of kalamazoo... that was pretty fun!
i went to check out my apartment complex - gull prairie apts. unfortunately, i'm on the first floor and it's true what the reviews on different websites have said... you can hear everything upstairs. but hopefully once i get all my stuff moved there, the echo and the external sound will diminish. there were only 2 things i wasn't a big fan of: the apartments didn't offer any blinds and you had to get your own... and the window sizes were not your standard size ones so it was hard finding the right ones that would fit. second, spiders. i'm not sure when the last time a resident lived there but there were a bunch of tiny house spiders in the corners of the rooms and closets and even on the floor by the floor molding on the walls! outside there were plenty of cobwebs and bigger spiders... ewww. guess they're better than 6" cockroaches down here in mississippi... so i called the complex to schedule an exterminator to come out and flush them out, but i'm not sure if they did anything. all in all, i guess the place is decent. the bedroom is small compared to what i'm living in now (even for a single bedroom place). the living area is relatively big so i guess that's the trade-off. kitchen's big but the bathroom is somewhat small and there doesn't seem like there's much too much closet space but we'll see once i officially get my stuff delivered there. hopefully, it'll be worth it - considering i signed my lease now :P i like how the complex is relatively close by a lot of places and it's central to a lot of different areas and access roads. i had the pleasure of driving down westnedge and checking out the mall and surrounding shops. seems really upbeat. if everything works out, i should be up there by the end of this coming week. it's definitely time for a change. |

Good to hear it. Just use a wet cloth and clean up all the spiders, webs, ect. I think once its gone, they won't come back. Maybe spray some cleaner there.
Downtown does have a lot going for it. Summer is by far the best time to go there. Ribfest is coming next weekend. I spent some time at the library and Bronson Park with my son yesterday. Nice, and not crowded. |

Bluesfest was a couple of weeks ago. The week before The Taste of Kalamazoo. This week was the Black Arts Festival and next week Rib-Fest. Downtown Kazoo is hopping in the summertime.
