Onaway is a small town. I don't know it as well now as I used to. I was there more as a child than I have been as an adult. I still have relatives there.
It is a small town with an "up north" atmosphere. There is a grocery store right in town so it isn't too small. Our home town is about 12 miles from the nearest grocery store. My husband is from the Down River area. There is definitely a big difference in the two towns. I love it up there. We try to still make up to that area at least once a year. My father owns property between there and Indian River. I hope I've helped a little bit. Let me know if I can help anymore. |

We go about once a year there. Economy is not good but housing is VERY AFFORDABLE lots of cottages and small houses under 50 000 . No shopping to speak of unless you go to Cheboygan . Rogers City does have a kmart and a m donalds which is no more than 20 miles. Onaway is very pretty, two grocery stores, 1 family dollar, four bars that routate staying open late in the winter. A dairy queen, several party stores . Black lake is very nice and still affordable. Everyone goes swiming at the falls and it can be quite a party. No movie theater There is a florist and a couple of hair places . I think the hardware closed down. Tourism supports the area and it pretty much dies in the winter. A lot of fishing and hunting and thats about it. Hope this helps if you would like more info you can email me off list and I will see if I can find out for you. Diane
