Where do I give away garage sale items?
Does anyone know of any donation drop spots around Novi, Northville, Farmington Hills, or West Bloomfield?
We have tons of stuff that would be great for a garage sale, but we are not interested in having one. We would rather just pass it on.
**Also, any women's shelters that need clothing?
Thank you!

There is a Salvation Army on Maple Rd. East of Pontiac Trail in Walled Lake, also one in Keego Harbor on Orchard Lake Rd., north of Commerce Road, and M-59 in White Lake.
Haven is the name of the women's shelter in Oakland County that will take items.
Check your local phone book for other organizations such, as St. Vincent de Paul. Some churches will take items for needed persons in their parish.

You know, most of the "charitable" orginzations don't just pass the stuff along to those in need. They sell it. I guess that they have to make a buck too, but in speaking with them-- on several occassions-- they have not been particularly nice. This includes St. Vincent De Paul, Purple Heart and the Salvation Army.
After I had my second daughter, I got rid of a bunch of clothes-- none new, but none too used either. I wanted to make sure that the clothes were GIVEN to people in need. The folks at Salvation Army actually tried to strong arm me into believing it was GOOD for people who have nothing to have to pay for stuff. If it is cold and you need a coat, you shouldn't have to pay for it. If you want a Coach handbag, ok, but not necessities.
Anyway, to make a long story short, there is a shelter in Downtown Pontiac that will take any clothing that you have and GIVE it to people in need.
Otherwise, though they are a pain in the ass, Purple Heart and St. Vincent's should come right to your door and take anything. And I mean anything. We had a garage sale just before we moved and they took all of the stuff that didn't sell in the sale. They will leave a receipt for a tax deduction.
