The whole deer hunting thing has been mostly driven by tradition , handed down generation to generation. I said that before , and , here in the Marquette area , I do think the hunters eat their kill , for the most part. Take a Yoopers guns away , and , ban deer season , would start a succession effort , from troll land , for sure !. ( Maybe I should start a rumor , lol )......
Our deer in the LP do taste better, they are corn fed from the farm fileds. In the UP they eat a lot of pine.

They feed the deer sugar beets up here. Every corner store sells the beets during the fall.
Seems to me , for the best meat , you should round up some deer and feed lot em. Then you could just turn out the " pets" , ( hopefully be fore the kids get attached ) , during season , and go shoot them in your back yard...... I guess in other places , those are called game farms , the kind of place Cheney to , with his lawyer.....

There is a statewide feed ban in the LP.

Don't know , don't feed them. They come around my house I am building , but , I figure , they were here first , along with the wolves , porcupines , and the Bear. ( very remote mt. top on private road , about 10 acres , 3 miles from the big Lake.).

I think the bear season is short ? Not a hunter , so , I am learning the local ways. Only been up here 1 year . I have seen bear tracks on the property. We have 11 feet of snow now ,(so far a record), most everything is dormant on my mountain top. ( 1350 feet el. Superior is about 600 , the view goes on forever )
How big was the bear he got ? Did you eat it also ?

C & S Guide Service | Bear Hunting| Lodging | Bait | Hound

This is where he went, they are wonderful people!!! The bear was 220 pounds. He did bring the meat home. The dogs and him eat it, I do not. He is having it made into a rug.
