Default allergies

My family is considering moving to Grand Rapids but I have concerns about allergies. Both my husband and older child have seasonal allergies. Plus we have a new baby who may also develop them. What is GR like for allergy sufferers? What is the air quality like?

Thanks

Hmmmm. Not a lot of response to this one. I am considering relocating to get away from the very allergy-unfriendly environment of Philadelphia.

Michigan seems to get good grades on the pollen level, but what about outdoor mold? Is that a problem? While I have multiple allergies, my mold allergy causes the most trouble (and from what I understand, it is the least likely to respond to the allergy injections I receive for it).

Uhh, Michigan ain't good on Pollen. Right now we're in the red zone, and let me tell you, it is BAD out there this week for pollen issues.

Allergies in Michigan seem bad, probably exasperated by the fairly bad air quality.

EVERY section of the country has pollen of one kind or another. Even the *fabled* allergy free southwest, LOL. It just depends on exactly what you are allergic to.

I found the allergy section at www.weather.com (TWC) to be very helpful. Just check out the location of the area you are interested in. It will also list what allergens are most prevalent in that area. Liz

Industrial pollutants in the area will cause someone with a predisposed allergy to be more susceptible to the allergens. South Florida has very little industry and few pollen producing trees like birch (the worst), willow, golden rod (not a tree but a big culprit).

I've found that B complex will boost the immune system and in some cases make seasonal allergies go away.

I went to a homeopathic physician and the remedies really helped me.

Yep, I've lived here all my life of 35 years and well, the allergies can get bad. I think the hardest one for me to overcome was molds. It still does get to me at times, but at least I don't have to take Claritin year-round like I did 15 years ago.

The worst I ever felt was in Seattle in the Spring. It was super moldy there 'cause it's always damp or misty there even if there's not any visible rain.

The best I feel is out West, but it does depend on the air quality. I'd never move to L.A. If you think the air quality is bad in Michigan, go there LOL...*joke.*

I ditto about the Bcomplex...I get injections 2X a month and it really helps
