Yes!! So many people don't "get it" that the unions are a large part of the economic problems Michigan has right now. It's nice to see some people, like yourself, that get it!!

Michigan or Virginia
Since I have been considering moving up to Michigan I have been checking out the posts to get an idea of what Michiganders feel about there area of living. My fiance lives in Flint....well Burton. We have had a long distance relationship going on 7 years now, just engaged this past Labor Day. I have visited on many occasions. Visited Detroit, Traverse City, Ludington, Sagautuck, Grand Rapids, Grand Haven. My limited objective opinion based on visits and visually looking around, the West side of the state seems to be the place to live. I live in a resort area and I can see that the coastal towns in Michigan survive on the vacationers and tourists. The Grand Rapids area is attempting to move forward, new Childrens Hospital being built, Michigan State will build a Medical School there, possible city rail transportation to be built. I am sure the city planners are trying to bring in other businesses there. Nice city though.....seems clean, many old houses are are kept up nicely, lot of parks, etc. Detroit area......hmmmm to be honest the only thing I see new is the football stadium. I could be ignorant of some other businesses trying to set up shop there...and I hope so. But my point is as an outsider looking in and just visiting (remember limited in what I see) the Southeast corridor just doesn't look that inviting. I live in an area that is economically doing well, crime is relatively low, and most schools are very good. And ironically our Ford Truck plant is closing down and there are about 2,400 jobs lost. Which leads me to say.....manufacturing in the USA will be history, at least on a large scale. I would love to move up for obvious reasons, and yes, being in the medical field I can get a job, but remember I still have to LIVE there, high unemployment means high crime, and people leaving the state, so far Michigan is recording a net loss of population. BUT I see opportunity in Michigan in many ways and I hope businesses will come in and set up shop. So......maybe I will move up, most likely in GR. I like Michigan, just wonder if the leadership, business and political will make some moves to spur on new business and clamp down on the crime.

AussieMale,Butternut, and BacktoMichi, You ALL Right.
However I guess this site is a little bit to deep for me, but I just don't kiss butts, and you three have posted some good posts. What I can't uinderstand is why certain posters can spit their negative venom, but never see (Morderator Cut) or (Moderator Insult). I don't care IF one did live in Michigan years ago. What's the use in bad mouthing Michigan now? There is many of us who still live here in Michigan, some might still move out of the state (that's on them), and many of us will be here forever. Fairness is fairness as far as I am concerned, and I would never believe that racism is on this site too. Anyways If a person wants to enjoy life all year around visit Michigan, and forget the ones who dislike Michigan (including Detroit). In closing I guess that I will be the only one that will get points. Oh Well Morderators. I will always speak up and speak out against, and please don't take my rights to express away

Brother, just as you have a right to just hype up Detroit as being a great place, others have a right to express their opinions. When people come to these message boards they are seeking all opinions about a place so they can make an informed decision. They are not wanting to only be told the good things. I express my opinion and am very familiar with Michigan. They can read it and choose to ignore it or consider what I've said. Either way at least they get another opinion before making their decision. Why on earth you would try to silence that is beyond me...

After you Claim To Ignore Me...Moderator that's harrassment
I thought you was ignoring me? Well since you not you are right about freedom to express your opinion, but a 3th grader can see your angle, and I will not justify your crap. Why don't you say something positive about your stay here in Detroit? No you want to bring out all the negative points, and that's a BIG problem with me. I have NOT posted or mentioned anything to you or about you.

Everyone can state there opinion about this , that or the other , but at the end of the day it dont matter too much.
Im still moving over regardless of what i have read or the reseaarch i have done. Maybe the research is BS or misleading it makes no diff as everyone of us is different & will make up our own minds when all is said n done and your there in the thick of it either knee deep or just below your nose. If it has reached just under your nose your in deep & need to wade your way out of it.
As for me i find this forum interesting in many different ways. It is De Ja Vu in its own way when it comes down to the jobs & the manufacturing , seen it all before.
Hell we dont even make our own toilets anymore as of last year , no guesses where they come from now, so i guess people need to know some of the negative points like that your toilet is now imported & that will help people think a little more harder before making that move. AS I ALWAYS SAY THE ANSWER ALWAYS COMES TO ME WHILE SITTING ON THAT TOILET.

Much love to Michigan
I'm moving back to Michigan from Chicago. Sure there's jobs here, but there's also a huge cost of living difference. Mass congestion (even by me, in the burbs), traffic, you name it.
You can still live an honest life in Michigan. Plus, where else do you find such beauty?(besides Detroit).

Brother, nobody is harassing you. Most of your posts I do ignore because they tend to be the same thing over and over. But once in a while I like to chime in.
I've said some positive things about Michigan and if you were to read all my posts you would see that. When it comes to the actual city of Detroit there is not much positive to say about it. But as I said, people want the bad with the good. I put my angle out there, you put yours out there and they can listen to both sides. It's a free country so stop trying to get me to not give my opinion. I don't care if you give yours. Live and let live, Brother.

Well...I have to say, and i've said it before- I like Michigan- Having been born and lived my entire life in California, I was more than ready to let go of the "go-go-go-GO-faster!faster!" lifestyle- it's exhausting, to say the least- you just get such a sense of ...laid back and peaceful here- I love it. It has it's downside, to be sure- one thing, I had the most unbelievably hard time finding a job, and I guess that's where you have to learn to work with what you have and be creative- i'm working from home now, found something awesome online on Monster that I could actually do, and for once, not a scam! lol~ and I don't have to get out and maneuver the weather, which i'm totally not used to- I'm still having a hard time deciphering what ice is safe to walk on, and what's going to knock me on my butt! But other than that, it's so awesome to watch the snow falling outside our big picture window- and see the shapes of the snowflakes that land on my jacket when i'm outside- simple stuff, but after living in California, I think simple rocks!
