No need to scare the Michigan newcomers...
Jeez, I'm kind of sorry I found this board. It really saddens me to read some of the posts.
There are people who come to this board from other states or countries looking for help. No need to scare them to make yourself feel better. If you have a negative opinion, please offer it up constructively. I've seen several outright lies and scare statements made.
To all of you newcomers or potential newcomers: Please understand that this board is not necessarily an accurate representation of how all Michigan residents feel. Remember, most people who are otherwise content, happy, (or at least neutral) have no need to participate in a message board like this. Good luck in your efforts.

Dear former Michi'slanders
BacktoMichi, I couldn’t agree more.
There are few certainties in life, but one thing
I know for a fact is that NO ONE who has moved to a
new state and STILL feels the need to log on to this forum
and spew bile about Michigan is anything but miserable
with their own life. Who blames an entire state for their problems?
To prove my theory. The next time you run across a
post by one the four horsemen of the Michigan apocalypse
go read all of their other posts. The same people who claim
to be doing cartwheels since leaving Michigan are
whining just as much in their new state. L-O-S-E-R-S
As I’ve said before, I’ve lived in California, Texas,
South Dakota (Deadwood), Arizona and
Savannah Georgia, (college) and I can honestly say I
had no clue how beautiful Michigan was until I left and
came back.
To my way of thinking, if you and your family have
their health you have nothing to complain about.
Period. It’s like some of you don’t realize
you won the lottery just being born in this country.
The main reason I’m hoping they’ll start an ‘anywhere
But S.E. Michigan” forum on this site is so that those
who are moving here won’t be stressed out thinking
you represent what this state is.
What’s the matter, aren’t you content with dumping
in the Detroit forum? Of course not. You’re preaching
to the Choir there. What fun is that?
One of my favorite things to do in the summer when I
leave the city is to roll down the window, turn onto
a dirt road and listen to the sound the corn makes as
it flys by. Man is that goofy, and yet, just think,
I’m doing something I love in Michigan. Can’t you people
think of just one thing you loved about it, and let it go?

I don't think telling people about Michigan's economic hardship is making anyone feel better. It's giving people a fair warning that may be wanting or thinking about moving there. I find it sad what's happened to so many people there (my family all still lives there by the way). But others need to know that it's not all easy street in Michigan prior to making such a move.

I'm not talking about censoring people's opinion -- I simply said that it should be offered in some sort of helpful way.
I'm talking about people who put out these blanket statements -- like: "why would anyone want to move to Michigan?" Or outright lies. I just saw on another thread someone tell a person from Germany that "the great lakes are some of the most polluted waters in the world and that Lake Superior caught on fire a couple of years ago". That's the kind of junk I'm talking about.
Come on. People are coming here from other states/countries looking for information because they may be coming to Michigan for job transfer / opportunties. The odds of them having a good experience in Michigan are high. They may even contribute to Michigan in a way that strengthens the economy. Can you imagine how horrified they must feel about their move after reading some of Moderator cut: insulting statements posted here?
Moderator cut: insults I wanted to at least put out the word to potential newcomers that these Cut are not representational of Michigan's people.

Why?
Those of us (me) who live in SE lower Michigan (Wayne) and see all the houses for sale or in foreclosure are terrified.
Maybe you live in a toney resort community like Traverse City and do not feel the same economic impact.
Right or wrong??

Wrong. My family all live in the Detroit suburbs. I was born in Detroit, raised in the suburbs and left the city 10 years ago in my mid-twenties. I'm out... I only go back and visit now. But I hear from them about all the hardship. It's sad. Or you can read the newspaper and see what's going on. People can deny it all they want but Michigan is on hard economic times right now.

Lets talk about the facts!!
We are on City-Data.com, the fact is according to this forums research
Michigan Ranks 6th in U.S. for a declining population.
The baby boomer auto workers, medical workers, and chemical workers are
doing ok for now. The 22-35 year old college grads are having a tuff time
getting a job better then 7-11. Our parents could walk into a factory and
get a job almost on the spot. The 70's are over and now our baby boomer
parents have there kids at home after they graduate. Unless the kid has
moved out of state or got lucky. I have lived here for all of my 33 years and
love this state and all of its beauty. My ties are with Michigan, the sad thing is that I have to do what is best for my wife and son. That means going where we can make a dignified living. All of you baby boomers have no idea
what it is like to be in our position, you were handed jobs. We have to earn
it with education and competition. Please do not take this the wrong way I
know that you worked hard at your jobs to provide for your family's. The thing
that urks me is when you, question other people's opinions. This is a blog
for venting ones frustrations, you should respect that this is 2007. A
different Michigan, same beauty but a disaster for your childrens generation.
