Read the whole thread, don't let the bias of those who don't actually live in Flint affect you.

i replied to your other identical post in the Detroit section.
do any research at all, and you'll decide against it. you can even check youtube. anything. look anywhere. you'll change your mind. visit first. just drive around. you wont need further convincing.

Moving to Flint area
Are you referring to the suburbs of Flint or the City? With a Buyer's market right now you can purchase a home just about anywhere in the Genesee Cty area for a great price. I'd be happy to help you locate homes in your price range in your areas of interest.

Downtown Flint is actually turning around nicely. They have some amazing loft apartments. My ex lived in one and I was in love with that place. There are more bad areas than good areas in Flint, but any city is what you make it.

Just stay away from the North, East and Southside of flint, exit downtown flint by nightfall...I stay in Flint Township, nicest area of flint by Gennesse Valley Mall. Avoid Dupont, Race St., Dayton Ave, Pasedena Hwy at all cost and for God's sake never attempt to take a leisure stroll through forest park unless you some type of weapon on you.

Mikal123@msn.com. I am interested in moving there and possibly buying some...maybe 3-5 units and use them as rentals. I am a carpenter by trade, and I specialize in remodeling/ restoration/ repair work. My goal is to have enough rentals that will pay for themselves, then serve as a retirement income 20+ years from now. Also, if you know any investors, I will be available next month in that area with all my tools and knowledge. Please advise.

Are you sure you want to stake your retirement on Flint? I'm a great supporter of the region, but people have been eagerly anticipating a turnaround for Flint, Pontiac, and Detroit since I was born. I know many who got cheap properties in anticipation of being there when it all finally turned around. Most finally gave up.
Until either the mostly "just give me a paycheck" populace starts innovating the new technologies / innovations of the future or the people with such ideas settle there / build factories there, I just don't see what industry is going to keep your units full for 20 years.

I live about 25 miles northwest of flint and my advice is to not go there period. Genesee county as a whole is a very depressing run down place, and Flint itself is downright dangerous. Michigan is a great place to live IF you have a job, and live far from places like Flint. Look to small towns for a safe living enviroment. If you MUST live in a city then I would say some of the nicer ones are Ann Arbor, Traverse City or Grand Rapids. These places offer some of the better aspects of city life without as much crime. Flint is the very last place I would ever want to live, it is totaly devestated economically and its very very depressing. Good luck
