Yes, I said it would be to fill your freezer.
We do that to. I meant trophy hunting. Those big bucks are that way because they are smart.

Here I was wrong. The sugar beets planted for deer feed are not certified seed. The sugar beet factory will not buy them. The growers were to have been given a one year notice. The state did not do that. It is still not a crime to sell them. Next year finding bait will be HARD!!!!!

The legislature has passed a non-binding resolution (read strongly worded suggestion) urging the NRC/DNR to rescind the baiting ban. It will be interesting to see if the NRC bends to political pressure or it they stick with the ban.
Btw, snowflake, if you enjoy seeing turkeys, enjoy them while you can. I've read that the baiting ban, which also covers recreational feeding by non-hunters, will likely result in many if not most turkeys dieing this winter in the northern lower peninsula. There are approx. 50,000 turkeys in the NLP and many cannot survive the winter without supplemental feeding that is provided by a variety of sportsman's clubs and private individuals.

I still throw corn out for the turkey....we have a flock of 36 that come in every day to feed.......and I guess I cant stop the deer who come by to graze as well. Gas station in town had bait last night, not illegal to sell it, just use it. But why buy if you arent going to bait?

Food plot = bait. Corn/alfalfa field = bait. Doe pee = bait. Mock scrape = bait. Acorns and apple trees = bait. Rattles and grunts = audio bait. Why the denial?
Bait on! Happy fall!

With the new antlerless deer hunt comin' I can scoot on up to MI and blast away in my Mom's back yard!
Ya see, she's baited them with petunias, rosemary, and thyme.
I'll wrap it up with some garlic
& onions...

Many folks here put out corn for squirrels and wild turkeys - is that going to be illegal too? Seems like the State has really gone too far this time urging neighbors to "turn in violators" - all this for 1 deer on a managed farm that developed the disease???

I was thinking the same thing. Or better yet just the regular farmer who has deer eat out of it. Is it gonna be illegal to plant corn or other things in your own garden?
As far as the guy who stated in the paper from Indian River, he will think this is a good idea until he has no deer to mount.
Not sure about everyone else, but I surely do not see as many deer as I used to around our area. So is this one way that the DNR is trying to populate the area?
I have never been impressed with the DNR, but in the last 4-5 years personally I think it has just gotten even worse.
