Here in the very SE corner of MI at the state line nest to Lake Erie I wish we would get the snow that people don't like. While we will get a couple of snow falls with a few inches of accumulation, we are mostly damp drizzle with gray ourcast skies for most of the winter months. I'll take gray skies with snow, accented by modest sunlight reflecting off the snowfall anytime over gray, drizzle and overcast. I find the brisk freshness of a cold, sunny day invigorating.

One of the things I like about this frozen land of snow and cold , here in the UP , is , the sun does shine !.... yes , we get a lot of the white stuff , and , the degrees due plummet on occasion. However , sun shine is also in abundance. ........ my old haunts , near lake Michigan , down under , it was always gray , and dreary......so many days in winter without sun, as the clouds kept rolling across the big lake , depositing an goodly amount of snow , without the benefits. Then , it would warm up , the ice was everywhere , and , the power went down , as we huddles in a cold room looking out at the grayness.
I'll take the land of extreme winter , any day, compared to the other , down under.

Anybody other than me love snowshoeing? My kids are old enough this year I'm gonna teach them.
This year: let's make it around the lake
Next year, or soon after: let's strap on the packs and go camping!

Love it! In fact if they are still offering the class at the Ludington State Park I am going to take their snowshoe making class. For one fee you get a complete snowshoe kit to make one set with bindings, and the skill to make and restring other sets. I have a set of Bearpaws that I use for hunting sometimes that needs to be restrung and this is a great chance to get yet another pair, and the knowledge to repair my older sets. Win-win.

I just looked at the snowdepth maps and it shows totals in the 30-40 inch range for areas south of Traverse City near the Cadillac area.
Looking at the computer models I highly expect that this pattern will continue to repeat itself over the course of the winter with the "northwest flow" staying fairly persistant. Expect to see a truly banner snow season for the snowbelt of western Michigan and the UP.

Must be nice. Warm temps and rain killed our snow here, and there's nothing on the ground right now. No snow in the forecast either, just rain and 40 degree temps. I would LOVE to live in Cadillac.

Yes , we had another 6" last night , here in Marquette. It snows everyday now , and we have not had a temp above freezing for more than 30 days. Our total now is about 65 " , and , most all is still with us. The drifts are HUGE !. The roads are clear , no problems........not even winter yet , but , its coming.

Awesome!
Great lakes water levels should rise a bit after all the snow melts.

Agree. It is sunny today, but we have had maybe one weekend with enough snow for sledding or X-C skiing. Now it is gone. It is supposed to be warmish and wet for a couple of weeks. Maybe we will get some snow for Christmas, but if we only get an inch or two why bother? We want a blizzard.

I think we'll get 100 inches here in Grand Rapids, when all is said and done. We've already gotten way more so far in December than normal (although it's only about 6 inches deep here now).
