Default Winter Weather or Toughen Up!

I have never heard so many weather wimps in all my days. Winter is one of Michigans most bountiful attriubites. There are so many ways to enjoy it and play in it. It makes you hardy to weather out a winter. Its good for your soul to see the Earth come alive again each Spring. IF you dont prefer our climate, please find one that suits you better.....but please, stop whining that its snowy and cold here. Its supposed to be.

Well said!
I don't know which season I liked best when I lived in Michigan, fall or winter. I had so much fun in both seasons.
I was never stuck indoors when it snowed, I was out playing in it!

WINTER RULES!

I am not a winter person at all. One of the things I dread being back in Mi. I will say though that there are many popular states like New York or Chicago where you have to be outside much more just getting from A to B. I wonder if people complain so much on those forums.

I've spent a lot of time in Chicago on business and it's WAY colder than here. At least in downtown, the wind never stops and pushes your skin to the dry cold limits. Wind
burn!

So yes, I would imagine a lot of people complain about winter in Chicago. New York City is not as cold as Michigan. Most of lower Michigan is more on the same latitude as Boston.

A wise person told me that if you live here, you need to learn to grab hold of winter, get involved in wniter activities and enjoy the winter, or get out of this climate. If you just "get through" the winter, you will spend half or more of your life just getting by and never have the opportunity to live.

I do enjoy winter, but i like it better with snow. The last few years in our area we ahve had very little snow, but lots of cold winds. I enjoy cold days with no winds. I love being outside on a calm cold day. But when we get a negative wind chill factor, I have to admit that I do tend to stay inside, hunker down near a fireplace and just get through the day.

I agree with the OP!

We kept on moving further north (started in Grand Rapids) because we were always looking for the winter weather we remembered and loved from our childhoods. We finally found it in the northern part of the U.P. and are now very happy!!

Even my four year old keeps asking "When's the snow going to come back??"

I would LOVE to be in a warmer climate, which would definitely suit us better. Thanks for the offer for me to leave. Unfortunately, we are stuck here for a few years, because of my husband's job. We do try to make the best of it and play in the snow, but as born and raised Texans, I don't think we'll ever "get used to it", or enjoy 6 months of winter. Just as you wouldn't enjoy 6 months of summer.

Don't always assume that people live here willingly.

I love it for photographic reasons. I've got some of the best shots in the winter time. Although my body doesn't tolerate cold very well anymore, that's not something I can control. And I've always felt 2 - 3 months is perfect but that's for me personally.

My biggest thing is that I want my home to be warm inside. With the cost of gas, its not so easy anymore for a lot of people.

you dont even get close to 6 months of winter in your area, just sayin'

Now, 6 months of a Michigan summer is pretty tempting....but you are right, I would not enjoy a brown, hot Texas summer.

To each his own, but, you have to embrace where you are.

6 months of winter? Maybe in the U.P., but in most of lower MI, winter lasts from late November - March, only about 4 1/4 months of winter. I LOVE winter!
