Well I love many things about where I live for instance looking out my window almost daily and seeing deer walk through my yard. Today I saw a flash of orange go by, it was a Baltimore Oriole. I love the birds, a bright red cardinal sitting on a white snow bank in the winter, the first robin of the spring or even a bluebird once in a great while! The blue jays, the Mourning doves, the great blue herons that also are my neighbors. I love the many beautiful summer butterflies, the yellow tiger swallowtails, the monarchs later in the summer, and the little white cabbage butterflies. There were at least 20 of them today fluttering around my yard so busily. I love to listen to the frogs behind my house on hot, humid summer nights - oh and don't let me forget how much I love the fireflies that are so thick on summer nights that you can't tell where they end and the stars begin. I lived in California and there WERE NO FIREFLIES! I also love the powerful thunderstorms we have here, so wild and furious! I love the month of June in Michigan when everything is so lush and green as it is now. The spring is lovely too, it's always such a relief after a long Michigan winter! I love the spring flowers, the first crocuses peeking through the snow, the daffodils, tulips, of course the lilacs and lillies of the valley, yes the trillium as someone else mentioned! Roses in the summer and of course tomatoes fresh out of the garden. I love the four seasons and the changeable Michigan weather, 30 degrees one day and 70 the next! The autumn is beautiful here too, the red, orange, and yellow trees burning brightly; September with its golden days; October is awesome and then of course there is always the first snow to enjoy! So you see I have many favorite traits about Michigan! I could go on and on!

My favorite things about MI....
1)How it managed to be the only place on Earth to me that ever felt like "home"..
2)Cost of living is MUCH less expensive than the craphole I currently live in (Colorado)
3)People are more friendly and there is less crime in the areas I would like to live than around here..in the last week alone,I have seen people smoking various drugs right out in the open and there is a violent crime of some nature nearly weekly here..
4)Michigan has distinct seasons with no fires raging thru the forests yearly, and the heat is not so blistering in the summer that you feel you will "crack and bleed out" from being so dry and burned to a crisp..lol
5)Michigan does not know what a "water restriction" is...where the town we currently live in Colorado has wanted in the past to enforce "sailor showers",and we are only allowed to water our lawns on certain days of the week at certain times, and cannot wash our cars at home, and people can get fined for filling a kiddie pool in their own yard for abuse of the water systems here...
6)Where cans/bottles are worth a dime a piece back home, you could take 50 pounds of cans to recycler here and get $3.00!!!
7)Our 2 daughters attend school in one of the worst school districts in the county with 30 kids to a class, and our eldest attending a middle school in the fall (if we stay here) that a kid was expelled for bringing a gun in his backpack this spring..
8)The shores, the lakes, the rivers, and scenic natural beauty that I have only seen at "home"..
9)In agreeing with JennH..tradition and family are very important to the way I would like my girls to grow up,and that is not valued very highly here IMHO...
10)In conclusion,my oldest says she wants to go to college in the grand tradition of Grandpa and attend MSU when she graduates from high school, and I would love to see that dream come true for us...

If we could get someone with that kind of midwestern common sense in the White House, the nation would be better off.

You have two wishes remaining.
While we're on politics, I kind of like the fact that Michigan folks think about their decision and have to be convinced. They're not in the tank one way or the other.
People are always shocked at just how beautiful Michigan is.

We're considering moving to Arizona and I had my own little list of things I would miss most. There has been so much mentioned but I did not see any of these. Then again there are a lot of posts.
The sounds of life here at night. I live across the street from a pond and it's so loud and alive with life at night. The frogs, the bug's, tree frogs. Oh and crickets. When we were in Arizona there seemed to be no life at night. Very quiet. I did not like that.
Another thing. The spring smells of the flowers and tree's blooming. I love it when I walk out the door and am hit with the strong smell of a lilac bush or tree. I also have apple tree's in my yard and the smell of their blossoms is amazing. Also fresh cut grass, of course there is grass just about everywhere but the lack of it in the desert is why I bring it up.

It's shaped like a mitten.

I don't live in Michigan. Only visited. But my favorite thing is how people tell you what part of Michigan you're in (or where they're from) by using their hand as a template of the state and pointing to 'where on the hand' they're talking about.

That is a plus. How many states can you carry a map of no matter where you go?
