I like that I can go 2 minutes down the road to one of the best bass fishing rivers in the state. I also love that we have so many great campgrounds. Finally, I love we have the U.P, where it seems like another world to just get away from it all.

When you think about it, there's really nothing north all the way to the North Pole.
Until I moved to the urban east coast, I never realized how much that notion of simply "going north" to escape was engrained in my psyche. I felt psychologically trapped with cities all around, even though I had ample open space.

There is nearly every kind of scenery in this state -- evergreen AND fall color -- hills AND flat places -- dry AND marshy -- city AND country.
We get weather that people in other states only see on TV.

The sounds of life here at night. I live across the street from a pond and it's so loud and alive with life at night. The frogs, the bug's, tree frogs. Oh and crickets. When we were in Arizona there seemed to be no life at night. Very quiet. I did not like that.
Another thing. The spring smells of the flowers and tree's blooming. I love it when I walk out the door and am hit with the strong smell of a lilac bush or tree. I also have apple tree's in my yard and the smell of their blossoms is amazing. Also fresh cut grass, of course there is grass just about everywhere but the lack of it in the desert is why I bring it up.

JGatti pretty well described this area. Anyplace there is water is loaded with Spring "Peepers" for frogs when the snow melts.

The entire west side of the state it describes, as well as the east side and the North, not to forget the UP as well. About the only place that doesn't describe is the downtown sections of the big cities.
I am in the Ludington area. About an hour north of Muskegon, right on Lake Michigan.

I lived in MI for about 7 years, and have both fond and bad memories.
My fond memories:
-Saugatuck Chain Ferry
-Traverse City cherries
-Sleeping Bear Dunes
- Detroit Auto Show
- Love all the muscle car gatherings in MI
- Red Wings hockey at the Joe
- Michigan's Adventure theme park
- A lot less traffic and better drivers than where I am now (Florida)
