Favorite trait about Michigan
Since everyone here is well aware of the negatives about Michigan currently, lets hear some positive. I mean c'mon, it can't ALL be terrible.
My favorite trait about Michigan is... well I have a few...
Endless Evergreen trees
Detroit Piston games at the Palace of Auburn Hills
Snowmobiling

Sand dunes on the west side of state
endless lakes (within the state)
rivers (fond of Manistee River) shrouded with dense woods (feels like you're a first-time explorer)
endless ATV trails
plenty of excellent/good beaches
Frankenmuth-Germany in Michigan
the Great Lakes scenic drive (where you can ride along the entire Great Lakes)
Detroit
Tip up Town, Houghton Lake Festival
lots of wildlife
(a few for now)

I second what michiganmoon said.
I also like the fact that my entire congressional delegation (Senators Levin and Stabenow, and Rep. Bart Stupak) voted against authorizing the use of force in Iraq (unlike Kerry and H. Clinton, who sacrificed their principles to their ambition). It made me proud to be from Michigan. If we could get someone with that kind of midwestern common sense in the White House, the nation would be better off.

Best things about Michigan: shoreline, Ann Arbor, no front license plates, skiing, coney islands [Detroit area], Traverse City, Marquette, etc
Worst things about Michigan: lack of white collar jobs, obnoxious union workers with jobs (poor/wack economy means poor/wack politics)
Everything bad about my home state relates to fundamental economics issues. I argue that the quality of life otherwise is much better than most other places in the country.

The people that make up this state are my favorite trait.
We work and struggle hard to raise families.
I always have felt that Michigan folk are more "down to earth" than people who live in Floridah or Bawston.
That is why it is so sad to see so many people losing there jobs and homes because this states reliance on the domestic auto industry.
Maybe in 20 -25 years we will recover.
