MI unemployment up again to 8.9%
http://http://www.wluctv6.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=192858 (broken link)
The nation stands at 6.1% The spread is getting larger.
I still wonder what the "real" numbers are like when those that have exhausted unemployment are added in.

Or those who have moved to states with a much better economy. Factor all this in and Michigan is in the top 10 worst states to try to live in. Factor in how much heating bills will be this winter and how many people will loose their homes and the ouch factor will be through the roof on your falling value home. Now the Republicans are making lists of people who have homes in foreclosure and planning on denying them the right to vote. Most of the people who loose their homes will be Black. I think if the Republicans could reverse Row-v-Wade the next thing they would try to do is bring back slavery. Any man who works for a living and votes Republican should have his few brain cells examined. But hey I guess I am just one of the as phill ghram put it American whiners and in a mental recession. I guess I am hallucinating that the financial industry collapsed this week. McCain said that the economy is in strong condition. Why not he has 9 homes and did not even know that fact. If Obama was white he would be wiping the ground with Palins rear-end.

I absolutely do not believe that most of them will be black. Where's the stats on that? I know MANY white people that have lost their homes and more that are in danger of it. Why does it have to be a race issue? Everyone is hurting.

Um... you DO realize that MI usually leans towards voting Democratic, and that there is a Democratic governor, right?

I have to agree with one thing...this winter will be dire for many families in our state, especially if it is bitter. The state is scrambling to fill the holes in the budget that so many people leaving have created, our roads are collapsing, and there really is only one alternative...tax increases. Adding to insult will be the small amount of money families will spend this holiday season, only perpetuating the unemployment cycle. Things will not improve in this state until rock bottom is reached, and everything has corrected itself. And it may mean that half the state becomes unemployed, and most businesses leave before a restructuring of our economy can begin.

What is so disturbing to me is how so many of the factories force overtime on thier employees and the employees are sick and tired of 70-80 hours a week, they are unhappy but don't dare quit because they are aware of how tough it may be to land another job. A common reason I've heard for companies to do this is health care costs in benefits and the 70-80 hours a week serves another purpose i.e.,if we work them 12- 16 hours they don't have time off to go to the doctor. We need national healthcare now and some incentives for companies to hire 500 people at 40 hours a week instead of 300 at 80 hours a week. Republican fatcats will be the first ones to whine," Why should I have to pay for someone elses healthcare". Well why should my tax dollars have to pay to pump sand back up on the beach in front of your gulf front condo after a hurricane came through and washed it all away.

8.9% is actually 1.5% higher than the unemployment rate of France, which has one of the EU's highest unemployment rates to begin with.
Something to think about.

So I guess Guv'na Jenny's "Cool Cities" approach didn't work, eh?
Our property in AZ is worth three times more than our property in MI. Yet, we pay twice as much in property taxes in MI than AZ.
Go figure.
