Just curious as to the average number of people each of us know that are out of work here in Michigan. Answer regardless of whether they're on unemployment or have given up looking.

The company I work for layed off 50 people, so I guess I know 50 people out of work.

Where is the 0 option on the poll? I seriously don't know a person who is unemployed.

I think asking how many people are underemployed might be a better question. To that I would answer: almost everyone I know!

Real answer to that one for me would be 1. My cousin is way underemployed, but by her own choice until just the position she wants opens up. It was be employed in a job she has training for, but in an area she or her husband didn't want to be in; or underemployed where they did want to live and raise their children. She took the latter. Only person I can think of that I know right now who is underemployed.

Wow, I would like to live where all the "0" answers are coming from, even in A2 where I live with the lowest unemployment rate in the state I could list a handful of recent grads looking for work.

None personally. And I am an automotive engineer working in the detroit area. We did lay off some people a few months ago but also hired at the same time. They tend to cut our contract guys to bring in new ones.

I would say underemployed is a good term! I know lots of people that say there are no jobs out there but they are currently working. Just not a job they like. I see help wanted signs all over the detroit burbs but nothing anyone would go for unless desperate.
