Default Moving a little west from Port Huron area

My husband took a job east of Owosso, and we are looking to move closer. We have been looking to stay east of Flint to keep semi close to home. Davison, Grand Blanc, Fenton, Lapeer. I like how Grand Blanc sounds but am concerned it might be too "snobbish" for us... not sure though any insights or other areas of interest would be appreciated. We have 4 children also so schools are a big concern.

well, grand blanc has parts that are more snobbish than others, but I think most cities do to some degree.

The schools in grand blanc are very good. But many regard Davison just as well. There is Goodrich too if you like a more rural feel.

Fenton would be a further commute. I can't speak to Lapeer schools but I do know they have a very nice community center with indoor swimming pool.

If you have specific questions about which school etc, there is info online or we can try to answer more specifics here, ask away!

I think Fenton is only about 35 to 40 mins from job, I was thinking that area might be nice because of the lakes around, and living on Lake Huron water is pretty important to us. Are the schools good there? I am not familiar with Goodrich but I like the idea of rural as we would like to have acreage.

There are spots in Fenton with acreage too.

As for schools, -- you don't hear as much about the schools in Fenton as you do the others you listed.

The lakes in Fenton get rather busy, there are several lakes in Goodrich that are less busy, and with kids that is usually a good thing.

Ask away and I'll try to answer.

How are the taxes in Davison or Fenton? I was looking at a few houses in Grand Blanc and was surprised to see taxes around $4000 a year for a 220K house.

Not sure I thought they were close to the same.

Default Swartz Creek an option?

Hi-We live in Swartz Creek and the schools are nice, plus we were able to purchase a nice house in the country on 1+ acre for under $120,000. It's perfect for our 3 kids, and we've been really happy with the small-town feel of Swartz Creek. It's close to I-69, so it'd be an easy commute for your husband to Owosso.

Thank you, we may look into that. Have you lived the area or did you recently move there? My other worry with moving is how my kids (who are pretty shy) will fit in to a new school, would a larger school system 1400+ for high school or a smaller system with maybe 600+ be easier to fit into. Anyone with experience in this area?
