Default Cass County

Can anybody give me any info on how the economy (job availability, housing prices) are doing in Cass County, MI? Also, how different has it became in the last 30 years? I imagine it will be a shock to see it after such a long time. The schools used to be really good in the area and having seen many people educated in other states, Michigan had to have been doing a really good job. I see a lot of critical comments about Michigan but wonder if that isn't more a metro area thing. Times are hard most places these days but is Michigan as bad as some of the comments. Housing prices from what I saw on the internet didn't seem that high compared to where we are right now - in the middle of nowhere. Thank you for any comments as I am trying to convince my husband to pack it in.
