The analogy is similar to bet your home on selling lemonade on sunday morning. Surely, with all of the great people working at our automakers, they could grasp the concept of "economic hardship", and the ways consumers purchase things today. Used cars are king, and not having a car payment is cool, along with that full coverage insurance bit. Consumers don't care about buying the latest suv, moreover they are concerned about where the next paycheck will come from, how they will heat their homes this winter, and who will help their children pay for college. I'd rather pay 5 dollars a feather off of a chicken than buy GM stock for 5 dollars a share.

I hope everyone at the BIG 3 and the UAW was thinking that same thing when they were trying to pass the CAFE standards a while back. I remember them setting up phones and giving the employees time to call their reps and demand they vote no on the CAFE standards. It was in the daily newsletter every day for quite a while. Then to turn around a few months later and ask the gov't for a loan to help improve technology to further gas milage??? Give me a break.

I have to agree with those who think the owners and managers of the Big Three are NEVER going to pull their heads out and DO SOMETHING to save their own companies. As far as I'm aware they've been getting warnings about this since the Fifties. For crying out loud, they've had longer than my long, long lifetime to do something about this.
