Cool Pipestone Lake?

Hi, Anyone familiar with Pipestone Lake. Is it swimmable? Sandy bottom?
polluted? I can't find any info on it anywhere.
Thanks much!

Default Pipestone Lake

Pipestone Lake is a small lake near the Siter Lakes area in Dowagiac. It sits on the line between Eau Claire and Watervliet schools and has a Benton Harbor address. It's an all sports lake and has great bass fishing - Very quiet during the week and busy on the weekend. Lots of wildlife and very beautiful.

I was on this lake last summer 2008, we were boating and feeding the swans. A beautiful sight. The swans swam away and in about a 5 minute span I notice one of the swans struggling. It appeared that it was caught in the lilly pads. We went over on the pontoon and tried to free it. Much to our surprise, something had bitten its head off. My husband thinks it may have been a snapping turtle. I am now scared to let my children swim in the lake. Any one have any ideas?

Could have been a musky or pike but my guess would also be a snapping turtle.

Your kids will be fine swimming in the lake. Snapping turtles rarely, if ever, bite people. I grew up swimming in such lakes and never once heard of anyone being bitten.

The only person I know that was bitten by a snapping turtle was a friend of mine who was harassing it on the bank of a river. He had it coming actually. Never heard of anyone getting bit while swimming either. From turtle, Musky, or Northern.

My first thought was Musky or Northern as well on the Swan.

Default Pipestone

Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a public access boat ramp? I have heard that this is a decent lake to fish..anything besides bass?

Thanks
