Default Is anyone else having a problem with Charter cable in northern Michigan?

Just wondering. I have an HD setup through them and all through the summer up till now the signal has been too weak to provide me with a decent picture. I've had 2 technicians out here the past few weeks and no one seems to know how to fix this. Meantime I'm paying for a service that's not being provided. Called the support line again today and got the same old runaround - "We're having problems in the Michigan area".....the Michigan area? That's a 57,000 square mile "area" isn't it? "We'll be happy to send a technician out to look at it". Uh, no thanks....the first one they sent came an hour after the 4 hour window they said he was supposed to arrive in, then complained about having a tooth ache and having to work on his day off while he was here, and needless to say didn't fix anything. The second guy showed up without the device needed to measure the signal strength, saying he "lent it to another technician". He actually made a bit of an improvement for a couple weeks, but now the problem is worse than ever, and I'm stuck here with a $2,100 TV that I can't even watch.

Anyway, am at wits end over this. Anyone else going through the same thing, or have any advice? I'd consider satellite, but I live in Petoskey right on Lake Michigan, and I don't think a dish could hold up to the ferocious winds we get here over the winter.

The problem is that Charter doesnt have any competition in the Petoskey area so they can pretty much do as they please. Our cable service there was always terrible, even the internet speed was slow.

Since moving to AK we are actually able to get a decent picture on our tv.

I have the internet too, and haven't had one problem with it, just the TV.

I just saw a disclaimer on the Charter website about this supposed "Solar outage" that happens a couple times a year, but according to what I read the problems are supposed to be confined to a couple months in spring & fall and only last for a few minutes each day. My picture goes in & out round the clock and has been doing so since the middle of summer. I did not have one single issue in the entire year before this.

That does suck about these companies monopolizing entire regions like Charter has up here. Why should they go the extra mile for the customer when they don't have to, right? It really shows in the people they hire as technicians, too.

Say Hi to Governor Palin up there in Wasilla for me. What a fox!
