Michigan has a lot of pretty countryside but super nice suburbs too! I'm from SE Michigan and now live in SC. There's some fairly decent areas of this state with decent economy but I'm not in those areas. MI actually looks pretty good compared to where I'm at. I can job search and find more close to where we'll be moving back to compared to what I can find here.

I love all the positive comments about my homestate. One person said they're at peace there, I agree, I am too. And it is absolutely beautiful and I'm anxious to move back. Can't go back without a plan but the truth is, economy isn't perfect no matter where you go. Here in the south just recently our gas prices were MUCH higher than MI. Now as of today, we're finally running only a few cents more per gallon. Btw, minimum wage pay is very common in SC.

But I really appreciate the positive comments.

Michigan is indeed a beautiful state babigyrl5! I have been from the top of this state to the bottom and from one side to the other and most of the places in between. Six years ago, I bought a piece of property just outside of St Ignace off of highway 2. Love it!!! Problem is that there are alot of people here whose jobs are suffering(me for one)because of this economy and that makes it somewhat hard to remember what a great and beautiful state that it really is. Your job sounds like it has treated you well. You should consider yourself fourtunate. With that said, you'll have to forgive some of the posts that you read here. It's hard to revel in the fall colors when you're falling down.

Boyne Mountain is nice. We rent one of their mountain cabins quite often. The kids like the indoor waterpark.

I totally understand and it is heartbreaking to hear it but I am really remaining optimistic about the future of Michigan. Especially since with this election there is an emphasis being put on building enviromentally friendly AMERICAN cars and being back on top since we did create the motor industry. I just hope I get ot michigan before everyone realizes the turnaround so I dont have a problem finding a place to live

Babigyrl5, I relate to your fascination with Michigan. Even though I only lived there for a short time, I feel as if it is calling me back. It's been almost two years since I moved away from Michigan and I still can't get over the beauty of this state. I feel so compelled to be there. My husband is from there and he wants to go back too. Like I wrote, I am not from Michigan and I only spent a short time there but I tell you it's got a hold on me. I have been praying that God takes this off my heart. It he doesn't then I'm going to move back. It's my favorite place in the World!

I haven't checked recently but I believe we paid like $300 - $400 in the winter and less in the summer (I forget how much less). They are new 3-level (loft) log cabins - very nice. You supposedly can ski down to a lift from the cabins, though I haven't tried yet. Check out their website.
