Ok let me take that back. It should be optional because people with insurance may not want it. Who made mandatory PIP part of Michigan's laws? I'm betting a Democrat.

Maybe so...I just moved here in July, but most of Michigan seems to be democrat.

I am still looking. I know the law was voted on and passed in 1972. I can not find a link at this time.

Not all of it though. The larger population centers generally always vote blue, but there are a lot of individual Counties that generally go Republican. Here is a map of the last presidential election results. We still had some majority Repub counties. Just click on MI and it goes to a County view and gives the number of votes for the candidates. Some were VERY close.

Glad to see I live in the most Liberal County in the UP , Marquette County. Now I know there was a reason I moved here !......... I was surprised the Counties around Houghton went for McCain. Not so surprised about St Ignace however. Thanks for the link.

Funny, when I moved from Michigan to California in 1988, my insurance rates went up ten fold (1000%). I was told that this was becuase Michgian had no fault and in California every accident results in a lawsuit.

I just brought my car back to Michgian from California and my insurance doubled. I was told that it is becuase Michigan has no fault and that is more expensive. This kind of reminds me of the oil companies with their gas prices. (Oil prices went up, gas prices went up. Now the price of oil is dropping, the price of gasoline is going up - you loose no matter what.)

Michigan no-fault was a mystery to most when it first was implement. Now, the dust has settled, so I have to say, most accidents in Michigan results in lawsuits anyway. LOL My hubby and I got a huge amount from the "other guy" with no-fault. They paid for two years, then we flied a lawsuit in 23 months. We still get money from no-fault after 11 years.
