Try Grand Junction , in Van Buren County. Talk about small ! Lost their charter , due to lack of interest....... has day dinner , bait store , Blueberry Coop , retirement home , gas station , AAA meeting hall... thats it. O', lots of housing for migrant workers. Cost of living ...cheap , neighbors- meth labs , and south side Chicago low end summer homes around the puddle ( Saddle lake ). No yuppies. handicap transit bus runs twice a day, to South Haven , 12 miles , good hospital........Quite a few lake cottages for rent , need fixing up , but , nice fishing , and boating ( pontoon ).

Plainwell is only 20 miles away. Nice farm town. Paper Mill is closed , so , jobs are scarce. In between , you have Bloomingdale , ( also very small , but nicer , has housing ,) then Gobles , bigger , but run down some , Kendell , Wide spot ) and Alamo. ( closer to Kazoo, prices start to climb ). get on interstate , go north first exit , thats Plainwell., Allegan County.

Ok, I lived in HIllsdale until 2006 and the economy there is so bad, restaurants and doctors are leaving and streets are full of empty houses. I would go back "home" except I need medical care, how are those things doing? Are things stable there economically? Are the people friendly? How about churches? Do they have Bible churches {born again Christians} there? I have heard of Three Rivers though I have never been there. Will look it up on internet. I used to live in Kalamazoo years ago so heard some stuff about Three Rivers.

I wish you luck and I don't want to burst your bubble, but you're asking for a lot from the "small town" you desire. I think everyone in the country would like to find that too. I was going to suggest the lower mid-sw part of the state but I don't thing you'll get all that you want. I'm looking in the Higgins lake area because of the costs-more bang for the buck- plus b/c of the tourist season ppl going there, the area has to offer better transportation/hospitals and access to "better" stores but with the
small town unrushed atmosphere. BTW, I'm disabled too so if that's important to you check out the area.

Yeah I think you are right. I think I may have to stay where Im at or bigger place. Most small towns are having very hard time, economically, being in a Depression tends to change things.
