The last post is correct about the ecomomy. As a past Foster parent of Saginaw County I can tell you that crime, abuse all goes up when people feel they have no choices. The Hoidays always make that worse. With that said I would give anything to come back I miss the area and I love it good or bad. I 'm from Michigan always will be and I'm proud of that. I hate it here and the grass is always greener somewhere else until you have to cut it.

I decided to take the job - I mean we still have the logistics to figure out, but all in all I said yes. I went to Saginaw today, but I really didn't check out anything but the office area. The area appears to be okay and the people in the office were nice and they assured me that nothing has happened in this area during working hours. During the summer, they even walk to lunch. They also look out for each other and they all leave work at the same time and such. Also, I don't think there will be much traveling within the Saginaw area as I though there would be and if there is traveling it would be to office buildings. I think most of the traveling will be to other regions.
From what I saw, it reminded me a lot of Detroit. I got to thinking that if the job was at Detroit I would have accepted it, just because I was a lil' bit more familiar with Detroit.
I am still concern with everything though, so I think I will prefer to live in Bay City. I've heard nice things. What do you guys think? What are the people like in Bay City? Are there any parts that I should stay away from? I thought this would be a good idea so I can just basically hop on the freeway and go.
Thank you guys for all your help. It really helped me a lot

Yeah but Midland is further away from work - Bay City is only a 15-20 minute drive.

Bay City has some areas that can be a issue as well. Have you thought about Reese. Some rentals areas there the commute to Saginaw where you are in about 25 mins. THe other area would be Hamlock, Freeland, Kochville some area of Carrollton.

I'll research those places. Do you know where the problem areas are in Bay City?

Generally the problem areas in Bay City are on the south end - particularly off Lafayette and the streets with the names of the Presidents. If you had particular addresses I could tell you if it's a decent area or not.
You may also want to consider Saginaw Township.
I work close to the same neighborhood where you accepted your job but a little deeper into the projects and I agree with those you spoke to at the job who said that they don't feel unsafe. Incidents are honestly pretty rare in the workplace and during the daytime I think it's pretty safe.

I've just been looking at apartment complexes and I haven't really found a lot online - they usually have phone numbers and addresses but no other details. Someone recommended me Old Mill Apartments and Orchard Manor. Also, there were decent details online about Bay Manor Apartments. Do you know anything about those apartments?

Look else where for a job, there no kind of life there or future. Bad choice. I grew up there. Once upon a day maybe YES! but now a BIG N-O!!!! Look south, and if you got to stay north Indianapolis,Indiana or Chicago,Ill area.

Did u look in other states for a job? Are you moving there from out of state? Jobs are getting rare in MI, so what job did u get? I honestly think there would have been many better places to live than Saginaw. Its honestly not the best city for young singles. Saginaw is an old industrial town that relies too much on the auto industry and things relevant to it. Its old, dirty and boring. The city of Saginaw has seen a significant decrease in jobs and population over the years. Violent crime can also be an issue, like Flint. Heck, if it had to be Michigan and being aroung young adults is important, I would have chosen East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, or the Detroit metro area. The best bet is to live in maybe Saginaw Township and not the city itself. Bay City and Midland, almost right next door, may be a bit better. Good luck to you anyways.
The decision is yours. But if you have job prospects elsewhere, then avoid going to Saginaw. Not just for safety issues, but there is next to nothing for young adults. You could seriously regret it.

Bay City is a improvement considering grime and grit and safety, but very dull and boring. Like every community, it has its problems too. Living on the north or west end of Bay City would be best. However, there isnt much to do for a young woman. Youre going to have to venture far from the area to finds lots of stuff.

Agreed! Indianapolis is not the size of Chicago but its EXTREMELY decent: America's 12th largest city, a great place to raise a family, affordable cost of living, lower crime than many large cities, big city things to do, small town things to do, big city ammenities, and a GROWING job market. The suburbs of Carmel and Fishers are the most upscale and still very affordable compared to the Coasts.
