Well skiernut, you may just get your wish. I posted some time ago about an amusment park that was rumored to go into Crawford county(Grayling). This is a short exerpt from tv9&10 this morning
"The developer of a 160 million dollar amusement park in Northern Michigan unveiled their plans.
Rumors of a theme park in Grayling of Crawford County started more than a year ago.
Tuesday, the Grayling Township board took the first step in getting it built.
9&10's Ryan Raiche and photojournalist Nick Kuiper have more on the plan"

If this does indeed happen, that would mean a LOT of jobs for people in this area, not to mention a lot of other businesses moving in as well. And I agree with you, I like living here as well.

Well, I will believe that one when the dirt starts to turn. I have heard of more than one large development of this magnitude in the Traverse City area and except for Great Wolf, they have not been built. Lots of hoops to jump through from zoning to financing (which can be creative at best). So we will see.

I hear ya skiernut. I work right across the road from where this is supposed to happen, and I won't believe it either till I hear the screams of kids going down the roller coaster. But I do want to be optimistic.

Well, lets hear one for optimism, kind of an endangered species in MI right now. We can hope it happens for the town and that it will be a positive development. There is a lot of positive in the area, we all just have to look for it.

Reading the Record Eagle on line, I see that the developer is out of Rochester and is very interested in the property. I was encouraged to see that the local government is concerned about the impacts on the local infrastructure, from water, electric and of course roads. All these must be considered way in advance and I am happy to see our elected officials are doing just that. I have heard that the casinos in Mt. Pleasant are quite a drain on the infrastructure which is not covered by the increases in local revenue. Strike one up for Grayling for thinking ahead...

I just got a Job in Grayling and am having a bit of trouble finding rental properties in town. If anyone has any suggestions on renting up there it would be appreciated. We are currently living in Southern IL so the whole redneck hillbilly thing does not phase me a bit.

RG&P is an unknown quantity at this point
Grayling has always had cheaper home prices than places like gaylord, Mostly because there is nothing there.
The big reason is the Military base that you can hear all summer long doing bombing runs and shooting artillary. The booms can be heard up to 30 miles away. There have been a couple of cases where artillary shells have landed in living rooms in subdivisions.
I used to sell property in Gaylord in the 90s when things were booming there. Even then my broker did not want me to take a listing in Grayling.
Water front even sold slow and cheap.
I cant imagin why any one would want to live there when Gaylord is a make an offer comunity now. Gaylord is a much better place to live.
I would consider Traverse city ten times before Gaylord.

Default renting in Grayling

Hi there,

When we moved to the area (we're in Montmorency County), I had a hard time finding rentals. I found ours on a Chamber of Comerce website. You might also try a real estate office. There may be a person willing to rent who has a house on the market. As stated, things aren't selling very fast, and a homeowner may be willing to rent instead of making mortgage payments. We were able to rent a "weekly vacation cottage" for a negotiated monthly rate. HTH

Oh, I know there's some hotels and motels that would be willing to rent longer term too.
