Observations in northern Michigan this morning indicate very low temperatures. In more isolated locations the lows were -23F at Pellston and -22F at Grayling

We got the 12 inches. It has been a long time since I have seen the huge mountains of snow in the parking lots. My 8 year old have never played "King of the Hill" before.
I made it to work but took a long time. I was impressed at how my little 2WD (Civic) pulled through the snow... like a little tank.

It got up to a balmy 32 here today, but another winter storm warning is moving in through Monday morning. Eesh.
I was reading a weather related blog yesterday and it said that 51% of the U.S. is now covered in snow.

Funny. We moved back to MI after 18 years in So.Ca. and I have been complaining that the last three winters have been so much more mild than what I remember. We get a little snow and it melts, then a little more and that melts too. I am glad to see it stick around for a bit. Now maybe my kids can finally go sledding and learn to X-C Ski.

yeah i also live in the zoo. guess it's the economy or how poor michigan is, but i almost died driving to work this past friday. i've been told they only plow the major interstates now (ie. 94 and 131) so other heavily used roads like gull rd and in downtown kalamazoo aren't plowed. so all you got are trucks and cars driving on the snow and packing it in some more so it freezes so it'll be great to drive on. not to mention, i saw a bunch of snow plows driving around... but that's it - just DRIVING AROUND not doing a damn thing. from my initial experience here in "winter" in michigan, i would expect this place to be used to snow and have a very routine process to deal with it, but apparently not.
just on that day alone, i counted 5 accidents, 2 people getting stuck in the snow, several people spun out, and i couldn't even get back in my apartment garage. good thing there was a plow plowing the complex...
gosh, times like this i miss where i moved from, where the temps right now are like 75-80 (just checked the weather forecast). here, it hasn't been above freezing for the past 4 wks. that rocks.
... what they need to do is drain lake michigan or boil it so there'd be no lake effect crap. lol.
