My sister used to live there. It is a nice area, VERY rural however, a veritable outpost of civilization with a single stoplight, a cafe and a grocery store -- not very close to much of anything. The nearest city is Chelsea or maybe Jackson -- probably Chelsea -- which is almost as tiny but which at least has a good hospital and is located near a main highway. Unlike most of the rest of heavy-clay Michigan, Stockbridge soil is soft and sandy (if not very rich), promising for farming and gardening. A lot of the places to live out there are small farms and it would be a good place to start a farmstead type of business, raising Easter-egg hens or mushrooms or what have you.
My sister commented negatively on the school system before she moved, but they moved because her husband changed jobs -- otherwise they would still be there.
