Question Q on the Houghton/Higgins lake area.

I plan on moving asap in '09 and I have several options. The easiest being the purchase of a new home & lot in that area. You've probly seen the adds-mostly in the AAA mag. New home and lot 60-70K +/-. I'm on disability so employment isn't an issue. Alone which I'm fine with. I know Michigan but not the other areas I'm considering. Is anyone familiar with these homes/areas?
I figure at least it's better to buy new construction for the same price as something much older in an area I'm not familiar with. Any info/suggestions are appreciated.

Does that price include bringing in electric to the property and septic? How about insulation? Are they winterized?

If I were you, I'd call the local Chamber of Commerce and ask what they know. You might be better off in this market finding an existing home.

And wells. The last I knew they did not have municipal water. Do not ever let a contractor handle these upgrades. NEVER!! No "package" deals.

This is a complete home with city water and sewer. I think sewer, pretty sure. I'll have to look at the brouchure again. The company will put me up in a hotel for 2 days and show me all the properties.

You will find better deals on previously owned homes because they are selling for less than the cost of construction in many areas.
