Wind energy
Has anyone been picking up on or reading about wind energy? Anyone have any friends or family who have considered or are looking into setting up a wind turbine? What do you think of the possilbility of this technology as a viable, renewable energy resourse and job creation for the State of Michigan? Any thoughts?

Michigan has already missed this boat, there are many tracts of land in ND, TX, and SD that have been purchased by up and coming companies for this very purpose. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and several other foreign super powers have invested heavily in these areas (hey I did my own research and bought stock I'm not giving all my secrets) There are exciting technologies being developed, clean regenerating power stations that can supply high amounts of electricity. Simply put, it is the next source of energy, a entire shift of manufacturing and R&D will be setting up...sadly it won't be in Michigan.
The race to find the most efficient and advanced technology for energy conversion is still underway, but according to a article in the wall street journal, this revolution will produce 10 trillion dollars in the next 15 years, far more than the computer revolution did. Consumers Energy,(stock market symbol: CC) based in Jackson, MI was considering purchasing land in the pinky region of MI for wind harnessing, but once again Michigan has been to engulfed in auto woes to see past the box. Its expensive, and requires something else Michigan doesn't posses: a high concentration of engineers and R&D presence. At best, Michigan can hope to catch the tail end of this revolution and convert some existing facilities into manufacturing for these companies.

With all of our water resources, perhaps Michigan could become the Nuclear Power state.

So she is producing her own electricity?
I think thats smart. I am too poor and unhealthy, but I would have looked into the off the grid sustainable lifestyle.
The electricity when it goes out, she would be in much better shape.
We get so much wind here, they probably wouldnt even have to have a nuclear plant...

people, our state government is hostile to business.....NOTHING will change economicly until the fundamental gov't attitudes change. The theft of wealth, labor and property rights by the state is a sword hanging over the heads of businessmen and investors. Why come here, we have no monopoly in land or talent, but we are one of the most anti business states in the union. We don't even have the bonus of good weather. Do you shop at the most competitive or the least competitive stores with your dollars. Why should we expect any other out come from other shoppers. Our state is in the grip of parasitical unions and their syncophants in the legislature and Gov's office. They have almost killed the goose that laid the golden egg, and they blindly carry on as usual, oblivous to the outcome.

Michigan based Consumers Energy is installing some meteiorological towers to monitor wind conditions for the next couple of years in this area Sociologist. I find it redundant considering that the Dept. of Energy already has comprhensive wind maps of this area. Wind Powering America: Michigan Wind Resource Map. Consumers is dragging its feet!
It will be in Michigan if we can get the required minds behind it. They are here but we are lacking in initiative. Not from an individual approach but from a governmental block! Michigan is so desparate for revenue that it is missing the big picture. Michigan, in my view, has no choice but to provide he best possible tax brake it can for up start businesses. You simply cannot tax your way out of a problem.
Our state would be better off giving breaks to those companys who bring new life to Michigan. New plans, new ideas, new resources, new dirctions. A better way for all...............

tax breaks for start up business?.............and a kick in the a$$ for those already here?????
no, equal treatment for all under a LOW tax base with less regs. I don't need or want the Gov deciding "who" is a worthy candidate for the states largesse......we are where we are from the states interference already. Why do people have such an aversion to much less regs and a free market?

State and federal taxes are only on profit, most new business do not make money in the first years. Some never do. If you mean property tax abatement, that is a local issue.
