We do go to shows at the Whiting actually they have some really good shows every year, both for families and for adults. The prices aren't too bad either, considering.
If you like to ice skate Ice Mountain in Burton offers open skate for $2 a session, with $3 for rentals.
Grand Blanc has a great sledding hill - they have snow makers they use too
Mt. Holly has skiing many I know go skiing there
As for shopping I usually head south, I sometimes shop at the Genesee valley, it depends what we need
Restaurants:
In Burton at the Courtland Center is a Mexican place : El Cozumel, we often went there for lunch from work
Italia Garden on Miller Road (also one in davison) has some very good dishes and not like a chain restaurant. We like their chicken caccitore.
There is Nuevo Vallarta in Grand Blanc that has good Mexican (it is similar to El Cozumel) they also have a "sister" restaurant across from the Genesee valley called Puerto vallarta
Taboon has very good middle eastern food, it is in front of the mall on linden road (next to taco Bell)
many like Salvatore Scallopini, have to say it's been awhile since we have been there, it was a harder place to fit in at a table compared to Italia Gardens -- so we haven't been there as much
Some I worked with once had a list of places kids eat free and what day of the week...LOL! We did not do this but he and others did.
There are chains of all kinds around
Downtown, we used to eat at the Lunch Stop
a good lunch is at Mott Community College there students training to be in culinary arts do it
Masonic Temple also had a nice lunch they served
For Chinese we always went to The Empress of China not the multitude of buffets...some prefer the all you can eat
